Nitto Terra Grappler first impressions/ and totalled truck

Put about 2000 miles on my new Terra's 325/70/17 all around seemed like a great tire, awesome traction on wet roads, float very well on the beach where I like to fish, nice smooth ride, quiet. But you cant blame this on the tires, this wreck of a truck had nothing to do with the tires.

Commuter bus decided to switch lanes while I was next to him, thanks for the heads up buddy.................

Oh ****, sorry to hear/see that. Hopefully you got his info.

One thing a friend of mine told me, is to let them hit you, it makes them explaining themselves a lot more interesting and usually makes them end up paying for things.

Are you sure it's totalled? It's a pretty new truck, and it looks like with some front end work, it would be fine.. unless the frame buckled.. Glad you are ok...

Yeah pretty sure they are going to kill it. Not just front end damage, there is damage on every body panel except the tail gate. The roof of the cab on the drivers side collapsed about 3 inches the entire back window is gone from the impact and all the pilars are buckled. Hard to see in the pic but there is a guy-wire supporting the telly pole on the passenger side, my truck climbed up that wire and I hit the pole air-born at about 45, in doing so my truck started to roll against the bus creating all the damage on the drivers side and collapsing the roof mostly by the rear door. If the bus wasnt there (accident wouldnt have happened) but it also kept me from completely rolling over.

Was checked out at hospital, xrays were clear but dang am I sore. Bus driver was fine, bus had almost no damage and was also empty.

Stay safe people

Glad you're not hurt too badly. This reminds me to get a decent bumper on mine. However, that might eliminate the "crush zone" effect that probably absorbed some of the hit to the telephone pole. I was rear ended by a guy going 45 mph and I was the wall in the insurance institute tests. AAA insisted on fixing my 6000 mile old Isuzu Trooper. My neck and the Trooper were never the same.

The insurance company will try and lowball you into signing a release. Let it go for up to a year before signing anything. You never think it's going to happen to you...

I'm glad to hear you are ok. Really sorry to hear about your truck though. That really sucks. Hope you can find another truck.

Well got the word from my ins co. Truck is done, deemed a total lose.

Not sure what I'm gonna do now, but kinda thinkin after 15 years, my diesel days are over. For the amount of towing I do it doesnt seem worth having a diesel truck with the rising costs of fuel.

Be careful out there folks, I got lucky but life can change in a heart beat.

Dang that sucks, I like that longbed truck.

I haven't been on here in a while but remembered back when you first bought that truck and followed your posts.

If you aren't towing much I'd find a 1500 gasser. I drove an Ecoboost recently and really liked it. Also drove a Denali truck and really liked it.

I really want a bumper too, I keep hitting small stuff but wrecks like this are the reason I really don't want one. But I've had to replace the grill on my truck twice in one year and my front bumper is gashed and has a small crack in it that isn't noticable but bothers me, just road and worksite rash . Might be forced to get one.

Thanks, no matter what route I take to replace that truck, I will most likely still drop in to DTR, great people here and its nice to see what folks are doing with their rigs or how they can help someone having mech issues. Most sites have alotta bashing going on but not here, great environment. I learned a ton and am very thankful for all the info and those who helped, as well as being able to walk away from that wreck, its much worse than the pic shows.

Been looking at used Ram 4th gen 2500's but with a Hemi (yeah I know its gas powered ) but If I can get one for the right price, I'd like to go that route, love the new body style.......

Here she is on her last day out on the beach fishing. Took my dad out for a ride with me to try the new Terras in the sand. At 35" x 13.5" those rubbers float very well in the soft.

A used power wagon would be nice.
