New Safety Recall?

Just got a letter in the mail today about a new recall on my truck... safety Recall F05, Anitlock Brake System Control Module.

Anyone else lucky enough to get one of these? A[[arently the rear brakes can lock up under "certain braking conditions". What, like stopping?

I guess it is back to the dealer again. This is getting old.

Carl

I still haven't received the fuel vent recall. Your post is first I heard about the ABS. I wonder if it's a few vehicles or all of 06'?

I haven't received anything about the ABS recall yet...I asked the Dealer about it when I was in for the fuel tank vent recall and they didn't see anything in the system for mine needing this done.

I wonder why the rear would lock up...maybe the lack of weight? #4000 pounds on the front axle and #1500 on the back?!?!?!

i can lock up the rear brakes on my truck if i snap the braked on hard. they will chirp for a split second but then either i let off or the abs stops the lock... i don't mind though, i like having more rear brake..

So there's a recall because the brakes work?? Geesh what will DC do next. I actually like non ABS, cause the driver can control the brakes, but most drivers now adays

I just got the same notice yesterday. I wonder how big a deal this really is, should I feel safe driving my truck or shut it down till I get it fixed!! It might be weeks before I can make time to go to the dealer...........

I have an October 05 build date, maybe it only afects early models.

What the recall says is the ABS controller may be defective and they need to replace it. When ABS controller does not work, ABS does not work and you have the conventional brakes. With conventional brakes the rear wheels have a tendency to lock (just like before ABS). When the rear is sliding and the front is not, well you can swap ends pretty quick... just like before ABS.

Call your service Rep. first to check stock on the module. Many dealers are retrofitting the trucks on the lot for the recall before sale. It only takes about 30 minutes once your truck makes it into the service bay.
