new 2005 better 03 ?
 

Hey, looking for some input re new truck .I ve got an 03 ctd now wife suggested I look at the new 2005 to trade up maybe change to shortbox .Is the new CTD any better ,is the tranny better or should I change to std. all suggestion & opinons would be apprecated
Oh forgot my automatic is starting to shudder now so the trade my be good

From what I've read, the 05 truck is harder on fuel than an 03, but has more power. The lift pump has been moved to the fuel tank, and should cause far less problems. Your 03 could have either the 47RE or 48RE transmissions, the only auto in an 05 is the 48RE. You can't go wrong with a six speed in my opinion. I'm sure others can add to this. I have no further opinions, as my truck is an aging 96, but I wouldn't be without it.:D

Come on people stop kicking tires ,lots of views here but only 1 comment i am asking because I am not up to date on the new stuff and trying to weigh out the + & - over the Tranny upgrd and or new CTD & tranny

I pull all day everyday with mine and I have the auto. I love it, I was a little nervous about it at first but once you get used to it I wouldn't have it any other way.

I get over 17 mpg with mine towing -city -and highway

With only 700 miles on mine I'am getting 19 MPG hand calculated, the trip computer shows lower. The 48RE's are a major improvment over the 47RE but I still went with a stick this time. I bought my truck to tow and then get groceries, although I put alot more miles on non towing. This truck is such an improvement over the 99 cummins I bought new that it would take volumes to write about. Everyone said the newer trucks engines are shoehorned in. I took a look before I bought and man there is more working room in that engine compartment than my 99 had. If the wife says go for it I only have three words to say.

I bought a 2004 Duallie and regret it . I've spent over $2,000 in repairs between 60,000 and 70,000 miles . Biggest expense was replacing both front wheel bearings . They are sealed bearings and the whole hub assembly has to be replaced when a bearing wears out.
