Mirrors only work in one direction

I originally lost the total movement on the passenger mirror. It would only go up and down while in the down position and left to right when upright. This happened back in March.

During the last two months, the same thing started with the drivers side mirror.

You hear the motor running, but no movement. Seems odd to lose them both so close together.

I wonder if this is a switch issue or not. The cost of the switch is 120.00. Replacement mirrors are about 200 each.

Any ideas?

They have 302,000 miles on them.

If you can hear the motor running I would assume the switch is ok. Sounds like the drive gears may be stripped on one motor in each mirror, which would require a whole new mirror to repair.

My passenger side towing mirror has started doing this same thing. Can I replace the motor, or do I have to replace the entire assembly?
