Milage On A Brand New Truck
Milage On A Brand New Truck
I will have a Cummins 600 coming sometime in March.
My dealer, and all others in the area, aren't very customer friendly. Say you tell them you want a 2x4. They'll ignore you and argue with you to try to sell you a 4x4 because they get make more money that way.
They get away with it too because Dodge is so popular. Some days they sell around 30 trucks.
Anyway, I told them in person and in a letter to not show the truck or let anyone test drive it. If they follow these instructions, how many miles can I expect the truck to have when I pick it up?
Thanks. I wish the people in my area were as nice as everyone on this forum!

I had 11 miles on my Toyota when I bought it.
It still had the protective plastic wrap on the hood and fenders from the truck/train ride,
so I doubt it had been test driven.
Figure it has to drive off the assembly line to the parking lot.
Then from there to the train/boat yard.
Then from the train/boat to the car hauler.
Then off the hauler into the Dealer's lot.
I also had about the same on my Dodge when I got it as well, but it had been on the Dealer's lot for a week or so in the For Sale section.

My Dodge had about 20mi. on it. That was less than I expected, because I got it off the lot. Check it over with a "fine toothed comb". Mine had little dents (6) on the hood. You couldn't see them easily. These were removed at the dealers expense .About 2 months later we noticed a bend in the side of the bumper that you could only notice at a certain angle in certain light. I know it was there when I got it because I only drive on the highway from home. The only parking I do is at the dealer or in my garage. My brother had alittle spot fixed on his gas cap. We have heard about shots being taken at trucks on the trains.
My truck had 3 miles on it when it arrived at the dealer. I know because I saw the truck with the plastic on the hood and asked the salesman to get the keys so I could see the mileage. Later that day after they had prepped it and driven it for the state safety inspection it had 15 miles. I think the "normal" amount is around 8 for most new Dodge trucks.

Got in my '04 I ordered and it had 3 miles on the clock. Did the test drive and took it up to 8, signed the papers right away, been in love with it since!
1 warning though my 2wd dually is NOT good in snow, worse than a SRW.

HighTen, I heard the exact same thing when I told 'em I was looking for a 2-wheel drive. They all acted like "why would you want such a thing" and "you won't have any resale value" etc. etc. I would just turn it around and ask them why they never have them on their lot yet I see a lot of them driving around. Hmmmm.

Mine had 4. Ethically, if a truck is already soldy when it comes off the delivery truck, they should not alow anyone to test drive it.
Oh sorry, I forgot and used the word Ethically. Dealers have no ethics. Most anyway.

a new price if the truck doesn't meet my definition of new.
