Michilin Warranty!!!!! Got my new Bfs 285

Sears did my tires today under warranty from mich, I had the mich 265s replaced with 285 Bfgs, MAN do they make the truck look better! I got 3 tires for free and paid 25% for the other 2 and had to pay for 4 new stems and mount and balance Total $219, By the way I had 10000 miles on the michilins. I am going to post pics in my profile.

What was wrong with the Michelins? They came stock on my truck. Did they seperate or something?

buddy26 01-11-2007 12:35 PM

Inspect them closely, A lot of the michilins have side wall cracking.

(4) BFGs for $400

I just had a set of second-hand Baja Comp BFG 285s installed this morning on my CTD, picked them up at Les Schwab for $100 ea out the door. They look like new (hope nothing's wrong with them [redface] ). My stock Michelins had 40k+ and served me well, but sliding around in this morning's storm finally pushed me over the edge.

Gotta admit, the truck does look a whole lot more like a TRUCK now!:D

So, until I get to the dealer and have the speedo re calibrated, anyone know about how much I'll be off?

mine have sidewall cracking too. they replaced urs under warranty? i havent tried yet...

Just wanted to say yet again, thanks to you guys and DTR. I took my truck into Sears today based on reading this thread earlier this week. I have minimal sidewall cracking and since there is 13/32 tread left they are warranting 100% replacement. New is 15/32, they tried to give me the 25% cost story but I pulled out my warranty book which states wear of 2/32 or less is 100% replacement. I went for the 285 BFG AT's also. Total out the door $200 bucks. THANKS DTR!!

Did you have to pay for mounting and balancing? The place I'm going through say they have charge me.

buddy26 01-12-2007 05:32 PM

yes, and get new valve stems.

Just went through same deal with Goodyear. They said a issue in the curing process. They would NOT allow another brand in the adjustment process.Another Goodyear only.I paid for balancing.

Yes, I had to pay the cost difference + ~$56 bucks mounting. For an extra $96 bucks I can get the full warranty. Not sure if I want to do that as usually I can get flat repair and rotations for free at Les Schwab.

They wouldn't go any bigger than the 285's though. :( as that is a DC size as well so they will allow it. Didn't want to push a good thing too far.

I have the 2" leveling kit at home waiting to install so maybe next month I will turn around and sell the 285's and get the 315's that I REALLY want.

t-boe 01-12-2007 06:27 PM

That's a little disconcerting :( . I wanted 315's on mine. Since you dealt with Sears they maybe a little more rule abiding. The shop I'm dealing with might be a little more lacks...hopefully. I get them on Monday so I'll keep you posted.

Wow, congratulations on getting any satisfaction from Michelin. I have had nothing but "nothing" from them on my problem tires. Cost a fortune on my motorhome when they started blowing out with 18,000 on it. Not one penny adjustment - - two years old - - all kinds of tread left.

t-boe 01-12-2007 07:13 PM

Michelin was actually really nice. I talked to two different people and no problems. They tire dealers were the pains. The shop I'm going through now are good. They were just a little slow getting things done. No matter, I'm getting tires and that's what counts. Oh yeah, after this ordeal I'll never go to Sears, except for overpriced tools.

Doesn't Michellin own BFG?

redspider 01-13-2007 06:16 AM

had a 315 bfg hummer tire that has a chunk out of the sidewall. looks like a factory blem to me. the people on the 800 number were SOOO nice to deal with. However the local shop they sent me to did not even want to look at it because I did not buy it there. I had to get them to call the same 800 number that sent me there before they would even take me seriously. they then proceeded to ship it around the country for a month and then told me it was fine to run and they would not replace. [duhhh]
