Mega Cab Noise

Guys while my truck is empty I have a little pop (thump) coming from the rear of the truck when I hit a bump. When I am loaded the noise is worse and more definite on a rough road. It sounds like a broken shock or something really loose. I have looked at everything from the shocks, fuel tank, springs, bumper etc. and can't find anything wrong. Do all Mega Cabs have this noise or do I need to keep looking? This is the first truck I've had in a couple of years that has the factory overloads could they be causing this, but that really doesn't sound right because while I loaded it does it to.

I haven't heard it in my mega cab.. Have you checked to make sure your spare tire is tight up against the bed? maybe that just a little loose and banging around.

I drove around 1/2 a day recently wondering what the noise was and had forgot that I left the trailer hitch in after setting it up for its first tow...

Wow.... I just realized I'm an idiot. I have been wondering what the noise in the back over bumps was, and that totally makes sense.... now.

Does the Mega have the fold out floors under the rear seat?
I know it sounds crazy but I had the same exact noise you describe and it was the stinkin' fold out floor not being secured via the little snap bungee thingy. It was LOUD if I hit a bump just right,it would raise up and then slap back down. I swore it was coming from under the truck,it took me over a week to figure it out!

No the Mega Cab does not have them and I know for a fact the noise is coming from under the truck.

Thanks for the post though.

I thought I read post somewhere that a guy found a loose shock bolt or something in the rear. When the suspension unloaded, it would thump.

I have eliminated the hitch as my problem as well. Seems we are on the hunt for the same thing... and I tightened up my spare a long time ago.

I finally had the time to mess with the truck and the noise is the overloads hitting. When I put my airbags on this weekend it should take care of the problem. Thanks for all of yalls thoughts on this.

I have the same noise as you guys... If I go over a good bump etc you can definately hear it....

Im going to check the spare tire on mine, and the rear seat flap.. I tought it sounded like it was comign from the rear suspension area, and it could be the same problem that dodge4x4 is having..
