Maiden voyage - first tow coming up
Maiden voyage - first tow coming up
I had my Pullrite Superglide hitch installed. My Prodigy will go in on Sat. I have 1600 miles on the clock. Besides check the fluids, torque the lugbolts, etc. any other recommendations for pre-flight check? I'll be hauling my 10klb fiver up about 7500' on a 400mi r/t. Should I pour the coal to her or take it easy?
Thanks,
Neil
Thanks,

Hey, we're doing the same, except we have a '03 HO with 12,500 on the clock. I'm going to head over the Sierras on hwy 50. My TT only weighs about 5000 pounds, so I'm not too concerned. I am hoping that the trip may help my fuel mileage come up a tad.
Dont be afraid to pour the coal to it
. It will not hurt the engine at all, and will help it break in a little quicker. Just let er eat on the hills, and have a good time trying it out. Let us know how it goes. Good luck

Hey just set the CRUZ and let the comuter do it's thing
For the first couple of hundred miles you may want to keep it below 2krpms and vary it abit, but after that just set it and foreget it. With the exception of the biggest hills you won't even have to kick the O/D off.
I think yo will love that SUPERGLIDE Hitch. IMO it's worht the extra money, there is only one small setback with it though. When you start to backup your 5VR into a spot and have to turn to put it in the pivot point will change on yo and through you foo at first. It takes a little bit to get use to but that's life in the RV Lane
Happy Motoring and keep it safe, Oh yeah, knock that grin off your face as your traveling down the road

We got back from our first pull. It was some serious climbing, and that truck is simply amazing. No empty test drive will prepare you for the treat you're in for when you pull with it.
Here's a link to a little page I wrote up on our trip: clickey
The odd thing was having cars pull over to let me by when going up steep hills. That just didn't seem like it should be happening, but I got over it.

At one point on the trip there was quite a hill to test the truck. It is just after a town (Susanville CA) so there's no time to get your speed up. NO PROBLEM!
I think the sign says it's a 6% grade. The truck accelerated through 4th gear, into 5th and still accelerating at a surprising rate and not even at WOT. At 55 mph it was obvious that the truck had a lot of power. Also, the water temp gauge would not go up!
It got a little past 200F and stopped!Just for a comparison, we used to pull the same trailer with a GMC 6.5L turbo diesel. On the same hill it was very close to wide open at 25 mph. It was also on the edge of overheating.
And I thought I had the chronic smile when the truck was empty!
