looking for Steps/Nerf Bars

Looking for a GOOD set of either nerf bars or steps. I have looked at the dealer nerf bars and seem to be a little weak due to the attach method. Anyone found a really good set?

I've used WESTIN step bars on the last 4 CTD's I've owned; I currently have the Platinum Series on my MegaCab.

I like my Ranch Hand steps, frame mounted and very sturdy.

I've got the Platinum Westins as well. They do use the pinch welds under the cab as part of their attachment points.

I've got to tell you,the way they attach is about as sturdy as they come.

I'll post a picture of my passenger side bar. Its bent all to hell. I was hunting last year and slid sidehill in some mud. The bar stopped my slide when it came to a sudden meeting with a stump.

I thought for sure the cab was going to be crunched, but the bar was stout enough that it kept 8000lbs of truck away from the stump and the bar didn't bend enough to contact the cab.

I'm sold on the Westins.

I have the same set as Rick. They mount to the frame and DO NOT budge. Pics in my gallery.

I have the Go Rhino Dominator II steps and have no complaints. They are pretty much just like the Nfabs.

Do the ranch hand steps require you to drill new holes into the frame or do they mount to factory holes?

No holes needed, they are clamped around the frame wit 2 pieces of 3/8s plate.

Just noticed on Lazar Smith's website that they will be selling nerf bars in the near future. No pics yet. Will be interesting if they mount to the frame like their steps do.

Another vote for the Westin step bars. Mine still look new after 4+ years.

I do a lot of rough gravel road driving, so i knew that no matter what set i put on, the rocks will destroy the finish after a few years. So, i went with a cheap set from a company called Raptor. They mount nice and solid to the frame, and have held up pretty good for the first year. I picked em up for less than $200.

Got mine through Summit Racing Equipment. They are sold under the Summit brand name but look nearly identicle to the Westins. They are frame-mount (they use the big cab-mount bolts) and come in a couple different styles. You can get polished stainless (like mine) for $219.95, chrome-plated stainless for $269.95 or black powdercoat for $199.95 (all prices for quad-cabs). Had mine for over 4 years now and still looking good, even up here in the rust belt. Here's a link to the ones I bought: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

And some pics of 'em on my truck.
