I have just bought a 2008 2500 and 4.10 gears. I love the truck but was looking for a little more in fuel economy. It is bone stock minus some blinging wheels and 34" BFG A/T. Right now I am running about 15 mpg highway going about 65 mph. It looks like I might have the chance on getting out of it for the price I paid. There is a 2006 SLT 2500 4x4 with 26K on the odo for sale in my area that I can get for a really good price right now. Here is my question.
1. What is the fuel mileage for the 2006 that I described assuming it is stock?
2. How much would it cost to delet the DPF and EGR and include a SMARTY on my 08? I would have to have a tech friend help with the delets.
3. With delets done, is there any long term affects on the engine that would cost me money down the road?
4. How long does it take to complete the delets and how long to put them back on for emissions?

I dont know about the cost of the deletes, but I know it is illegal, so if your state has emission testing, you would fail, just based on having them off.

i am not sure about the millage in the 06 you described, but with 37in tires, i get 16-17 highway mpg going 70.

My 06 I get anywhere from 18-23 mpg. It all depends on where I drive. If I do mostly open highway then 22-23, in town 18ish. All stock.

When I first got my truck it only got 13mpg. It takes these motors about 25k to get broken in and then you will see your mpg go up.

Cost estimate for DPF Delete with Smarty. I just got the programmer and only the DPF delete pipe for $685 and $285 respectively. Takes about a good 30 minutes to install the pipe and pull the plugs under the hood, and about 10 minutes to upload the program.

With exception of a few taped off plugs, mine looks stock under hood.

If you do the deletes and pull a trailer to break that baby in, you see your fuel mileage go up. It needs some time.

I agree with the others I have just over 22k on mine and the mileage keeps getting better, started off the first 10-15k in the 15-17 mpg range, last trip to and from deer camp averaged by hand 19.2 mpg, no towing but bed full...

Make sure you verify the rear gear ratio. You get 4.10's again you'll be in the same boat.

Well I just drove the 06 and it was nice. However he is getting the same mileage I am. His is at 25k and mine at 20k. I never looked at the gear ratio on the 06 yet. But wow I am shocked at how much nicer my 08 drives. Seems like two different trucks! Also the 08 doesn't have the speedo changed for the 34" tires. So that would really mean I am getting slightly better mileage then what my pen shows. Either way I am going to keep the 08 for now. I just need to get some oem rims cuz the chrome things drive me crazy.

Check some of the 6.7 posts several have said blocking the egr and not messing with the delete will offer better mileage and power with no down sides. My well broke in 06 (300,000 +) still gets 17-19 mpg highway with 3 gang boxes full of tools. But IMO you can't beat the 5.9 or the 6.7 Cummins no matter what.
