Something else to look at is the wires at the tail light connection, my truck was doing that and the wires had pulled out of the connector just enough to have an intermittent contact, reseated the wires and no more issues.

Mine did this on the passenger side brake light. After dealing with it several times and finally getting it diagnosed, I just "sprung out" the contacts and applied dilectric grease. No problems for several months, now.

I'm fighting this on my 2004 right now. It's the right brake light in my case. Everything works other than the brake light. Replaced the circuit board with a new one, swapped boards and bulbs from the left side, still nothing. Broke out the test light and found the brake light circuit was dead on the right side. (White with a green tracer.)
I'm being told it is most likely corrosion in the power distribution center.
Historically, I've had problems with the left side tail light burning/melting the bulbs over the 3 1/2 years I've owned the truck. When the 'lamp out' light went bezerk yesterday, I just figured it was another melted bulb, so I stopped by O'Reillys and bought a new circuit board and a pack of bulbs figuring the circuit board was the reason the bulbs were melting. I was surprised to see it was actually the right side acting up, even though everything appeared fine.
I don't have a resolution just yet, but if it's something under the hood acting up, I can only imagine what that is going to cost.

So, I finally went to the dealer for some much needed fluid maintenance and had them check out my problem. I should have listened to Madhat and did it myself but I didn't so here is what they found....My spare tire (35x12.50) was banging into the harness and created a short/open. The repair and rerouting cost 185. I am not sure how long it would have taken me but having it fixed is worth the money since fixit tix in Ca are now 355 dollars plus repair. Anyhow, thanks to all for the help and suggestions.
All the best,
Mark

Have had the same problem with my '03 Dually. I've added a bunch of lights and believe me, it's a real pain when it goes out but won't stay out. My biggest problem was the tail light. It would get just a tad loose in the socket. I went to the drug store and bought a bottle of clear fingernail polish, put a dab or two on each bulb and didn't have a problem anymore. Then if the light came on the bulb was out.

Ok, so here is my problem. Started the other day and is getting a little worse.
Mostly only get it when the turn signals are on. Even then, the lamp out light flashes with the turn signals.. doesn't really stay on.
Sometimes I get it going down the road, again doesn't stay on but rather turns on/off and chimes.
I found a lic plate light out, replaced, still same issue. All other lights seem to be ok. Historically, I have gone thru 2-3 brakes lights, perhaps on each side, so I know the 03's eat bulbs.
Thoughts?
Thanks

A few months ago I had the exact same issue. Fixed it by removing the bulbs and squeezing the mounting tabs for better contact. And reapplying dielectric grease.
