Kicker Mopar Amp upgrade

Does anyone have any info on the Kicker Mopar Amp upgrade(part #77KICK18AB). I have a 2006 Mega Cab with Infinity 7 speaker system and want to replace the speakers with quality 4 ohm speakers. I came across this upgrade when searching for solutions to increase power to all speakers and didn't want to add another amp in an aftermarket location. I have sent inquiries to Kicker for info on what, how and why this Kicker amp is an upgrade. I will post answers from them for those interested. I am just looking for someone here that has seen, and heard, this "upgrade" on the factory speakers and/or on aftermarket speakers. Thanks.

funny you should ask ... I installed it and the kicker ugrade front and rear speakers this morning. No BS.

The amp fits in place of the infinity. You take the factory infiniti out, take the bracket off, put the bracket on the kicker, put back in same spot. No wires to add or remove ... no nothing ... plug and play. Smaller than an average portable harddrive.

For all 6 speakers and the amp I paid $385 ... worth every penny IMHO. Eveny comes with Kicker decals to replace the Infiniti ones on your doors.

did you happen to try it with the factory speakers before swapping them out?

Where did you get the amp?

Thanks Mike.
Any first thoughts on the performance of the system. I don't suppose you installed the amp and listened to the difference with the factory speakers? Not that I intend to keep them, but just interested in which is the weaker link in the factory system: the speakers or the amp.
I hadn't really considered Kicker speaker yet, but had some kicker subs years ago that performed well. Overall how does it compare to the system you replaced? Thanks again.

Does anybody know if the stock infiniti amp will plug/play with the stock dodge sound system that doesn't have the inf upgrade.
I'd be interested in buying your amp/speakers if this is the case.

dan_k ... nope ... but kicker makes an amp and harnes to convert.

I did not do the amp first, I did the speakers first. I did listen to the sound before replacing the amp. My impression of the speakers ... well, well, well worth the roughly $250 you'll spend on all siz to replace the infinity. I have replaced mine in the past with infinitis an JLs but the 1ohm output always hindered the speakers. These kickers mount right up, plug in to the factory harness and sound killer. All sounds are better ... highs, mids, and bass is improved.

Now for the amp, I normally listen to the radio (REC Nav) at 16-18 and get my jam on at 22-24. That said, the highs are amazingly crystal now ... I thought they were good before ... they are reallly good now. Mids are moderately improved and bass is about the same. But to listen normally, I am at 14-16 and to get my jam on, 20-22. I hear no distortion at those levels and it is bangin (except through satellite ... always lose bass with satellite). Mirrors vibrate pretty good on the door as well as the rear view. Not rattle or anything like that ... you can just see the thump thump in them. The biggest change I saw and it was worth it almost by itself was the rear speakers actually make noise now. They don;t just sit there and pretend. Do NOT buy this for the DSS ... it is stupid ... it only works in VSS mode and that is how my iPod goes in ... I used the extra audio in and played a dvd movie ... it does indeed let you hear an airplane go over head from front to rear.

Now Monday I am going to order the sub upgrade as well. Not because I am disappointed or anything, but I want consistent sound across FM/Sat/iPod/CD. I spent $385 for all six speakers and the amp ... would I do it again ? In a second. The 3rd bolt on the amp is no joke ... have a 10mm ratchet wrench or a universal joint that can bend 90 degrees ... preferrable 1/4" drive. Took 60-90 minutes to swap all 6 speakers ... took just over an hour to get that 1 bolt out.

Instructions for everything are very clear, no guessing. Like I said, even comes with kicker decals for the door to replace the Infinty ones.

I'm in North Texas also. SW of FTW. So the $385 (for amp and all six speakers)was actually dealer price at Allen Samuels Dodge? Thought it would be higher from the dealer. I will defiantly check that out locally. Do you have the part numbers?

I was thinking of just replacing the speakers. I am gald you mentioned doing this already. I didn't realize that the system was on 2 ohm speakers. That would limit selection significantly.

I have the Megacab, so I think the Sub option is just for the Quad, but does the new amp harness have outputs for the Sub amplifer? Reason I ask is--I am think of adding a small Rockford Fosgate mono amp and a 10" or 12" truck enclosure to help the Bass response. I was going to order a Add an Amp, PAC C2A-CHY, to get RCA for the RF Amp. Is the Kicker/Mopar sub self powered?

I have researched that bolt issue and appreciate the advice. I am thinking once I get it out it will be slotted before I put it back in to minimize the pain, hopefully.

slotting is part of the instructions. the amp does not have a sub out put. the sub kit taps in to the left door speaker under the dash as a sub input ... basically a high low input.

If you call and ask for "parts", you will not get that price. Jerrod works wholesale parts. I have bought tons and tons from them. Tell him I told you to call him, and he will take care of you. The parts come directly from Stillwater Designs (Kicker) to the dealership, so from the day yuo order it until they show up will be about 7-10 days (calendar). So, what you might want to do is do the speakers first, judge for yourself and order the amp if you need it. The biggest change I liek is the rear speakers actually produce sound now that you can hear with the new amp.

If you call J-Rod, he'll have them handy, but here are the P/N

77kick32 - rears
77kick18ab - amp
77kick11ab - front 4 speakers

Yes on the stock head unit ... the speakers don't care infinity or not ... the part number are the same i believe ... I have had a bunch of Rams, but they always had the Infinity ... but if you have 6x9 in the door, 3" in the dash and some stupid size in the rear door ... yes, the speakers bolt right in.
