Joined the Cracked Dash Club today!!

Well after seeing all the post and staying away from Armorall hoping it won't happen to me, IT DID!! Got in the truck today to come home with it a cloudy 60 in San Diego and low and bohold my upper dash is split right in the middle. I have the vent visors to crack the windows, use a sun shade, and keep it garaged and still have a crack in the dash, simply amazing. Can't blame the California sun either, it has only been here 3 months before that it was in Missouri and Virginia. I guess I'll go down to the dealer and see what they say tomorrow.

Rug it.

I rugged mine up immediately upon purchase. A Dodge tech who posts here occasionally has never replaced one with rug protection. $40 vs $800. No brainer! I'm going to the car show today and am going to ask a rep if they've fixed the cracked dash thing.

I'll second the dash mat. Cheap protection.

X3 on the dash mat. Plus you can set stuff on your dash without it sliding all over the place. Got mine from Geno's.

Knock on wood, my 04.5 has no cracks on it, and it's spent its whole life outdoors, never in a garage.

Ya, I have a buddy with a 2003, with dark grey paint and black interior. This truck sits in the San Jose sun un-covered, and he uses nothing but ArmorAll. No cracks what so ever. Looks like new. Seems like there are some variables at large.

We have an outfit here that can do repairs to soft tissues called CR Techniques (pun intended). They do awesome work. They use latex to pattern the dash, then do the repair and use the latex to put the pattern back in, then paint to match. I had a door panel done in '98 and you couldn't find it today unless I showed it to you. Maybe you have someone in your area. The '98 repair was $150.

Good luck

Has anyone heard of any 06 and ups cracking? I haven't heard of any and just wondered if the problem was solved with interior change or they just haven't been around long enough to crack.

I've only heard of the 2nd and early 3rd gens (2002-2003) cracking as of yet.

The '06's+ haven't been out long enough to crack. Give 'em a few more years.

Well I got a hold of Dodge Customer Service and will have to wait and see what they can or will do. The main thing is I have a case# and it has been documented.

Been there, done that. I think Dodge made them that way for a purpose, makes you want to get a new truck, lowers the trade in value, or the service dept makes a bunch on replacement. The dash is considered trim and is not covered under the extended warranty. Took me a while to get over it, but finally I got a good dashmat and called it a day. Could always go the Coverlay route for a more stock look. Might do that before I sell it someday.
