ball joint binding, loose tie rods

I recently bought my truck from 2nd owner who had taken it to the dealer on a regular basis for service. Anyway, I talked with the dealer today and the only negative they could report was that in Sept. 08 the truck was in for service and they noted left ball joint binding and loose tie rods. It said owner declined service. The truck seems to run great, how can I tell if that has been fixed or if it still needs fixing?

jack both front tires up in air. take your hands and grab the top and bottom of tire and try to wiggle up and down to see if there is any play. then also do this with the front and back of tire and wiggle side to side to see if there is any play. if there is play then i would have it looked at
