IFS front wheel bearings

Hey guys, did a search and didn't exactly see much related to the IFS front wheel bearings, most what I see on here are 4WD trucks..

I have this low pitch whine at 42k miles that I'm trying to find out if it's my tires or bearings... the reason I'm thinking it's bearings, is when I let up on the gas and press the brakes slightly it gets just ever so lightly louder... hardly noticeable.

the tires are the michelin LTX's... they look clean, no cupping or anything..

the noise is constant over different road surfaces.. starts about 45mph.

So, are the IFS trucks as prone to wheel bearing problems as I'm hearing about the solid axle trucks are? what other areas should I look at? I scanned under the truck and the UJ's look tight..

FYI - truck is new to me, but had done some towing in the past according to the dealer I bought it from.

I would rotate your tires to eliminate them from being the problem.

It does sound like a wheel bearing, though, from what you are describing.

You can jack up the front and rotate the tires while listing with a with a stethoscope. Thats how I found mine. I would check the right first as I have put 3 on the right and one on the left. If that is what you find try.www. autopluspartsstores.com as they have the best price and warrenty. They sell timken bearings with a life time warrenty. The three that failed were SKF...the oem and they only stand behind them for one year. Don't ask how I know.....LOL

My truck is doing the EXACT same thing. 04 2wd. Are the bearings themselves even servicable or replaceable? Or do I have to buy a whole new hub assembly?

little update.. I pulled the wheel off the suspect side, and I can clearly see the grease has been cooked out of the sealed hub.. the bearing still feels tight thought, no real noise. It's probably a little dry right now and whining. I noticed some small metal flecks surrounding the bearing, and I'm not sure if they came from removing the caliper bolts or not.

I ordered a new timken unit and should arrive friday..

Before you pull it all apart, make sure you have the right one. I got one from Kragen, correct part number, but had the wrong mounting.

Then got one from another parts store, correct number, but the plug was wrong.

I finally had to get it from the dealer using my VIN #. This is for a 2005 2wd.

Now I need to get another one for the passenger side and want to find one with the lifetime warranty.
