How To

I need to know how to get the headlight switch out of an 06'

ptgarcia 10-19-2007 02:03 PM

It's kind of a pain. You have to pretty much remove all the plastics from the dash, starting at the cup holders.

i hope your being sarcastic.
I'm trying to hook up a gauge light to a dimmed wire,is there an easier way

REMOVAL
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove the cluster bezel (1) from the instrument panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/CLUSTER BEZEL - REMOVAL).
Disconnect the wire harness connector (3) from the back of the headlamp switch (4).
Place the cluster bezel face down on a suitable work surface. Be certain to take the proper precautions to protect the face of the bezel from cosmetic damage.
Remove the three screws (2) that secure the headlamp switch to the back of the cluster bezel.
Remove the headlamp switch from the cluster bezel.

REMOVAL CLUSTER BEZEL
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, seat belt tensioner, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and possible personal injury or death.

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
Remove the steering column opening cover. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/STEERING COLUMN OPENING COVER - REMOVAL)

Remove the screws (2) that secure the top of the instrument cluster bezel (1) to the instrument panel.
Using a trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, disengage the two retainer clips that secure the top of the instrument cluster bezel to the instrument panel.
Carefully disengage the instrument cluster bezel from the instrument panel opening and remove the bezel.

I still dont have my guage lights hooked up. what im gonna do is just hook the lights up to a switch on the dash so I can turn them on or off. at night I think those lights at eye level would drive me crazy even if they were dimmed.

Good for you! I was hoping you didn't go probing with a test light! With all of the multiplexed systems and the CAN bus and all, who KNOWS what kind of mess could have happened! Glad to hear it worked out for ya!

I was`able to reach a dimable wire through the side cover on my '07. I used a test light to find it and then was able reach in with needle nose to install a "line tap" connector.
