High Millage 3rd gens
#16
I have seen an '05 on ebay with 513,000 miles on it. That's not a misprint, and it wasn't in km, it was miles. It looked pretty good, and was obviously a hotshot truck to have that kind of mileage. Another one was an '03 with 320 or 330-some odd thousand on it. It also looked pretty good, especially for the mileage. Both of these were ebay trucks, and I saw both because of threads on this or some other forum where someone else spotted them on ebay.

I got 81.5k on my 04. It's about to have its third birthday in a few months. The only problem was tie rod ends at around 68k miles, other than that still like the day I pulled it off lot.

mileage
Well, the tranny was rebuilt @ 200K. It might've gone further but I was rear-ended while towing a trailer. After that the tranny started acting up, not shifting right. Took it to Dodge and they found a couple pieces of a big snap ring in the pan. Had it rebuilt and the TC replaced. There WAS alot of wear. About 65% of those miles are highway towing. Oh and get this, Dodge tech told me no matter how well you take care of the tranny it will eventually fail due to some O rings which lose their elasticity and then lose their seal causing the tranny to fail. They were surprised that it looked as good as it did and lasted that long.

good, just a couple more questions if you don't mind GMScott, Did you ever add anything to the atf+4 and how often did you change your fluid? flush or just drain and refill?

Truck was serviced by Dodge dealer as per the manual. (well sometimes the mileage got stretched slightly beyond the recommendations, but not by much) Fluid drained & filter changed each time. NO Flush - I would absolutely NOT do that. No time to do it myself, so I'm at the mercy of the techs, although I do keep a close eye on them when my "bread & butter" is in their shop. I have developed a great relationship with them as I did not buy the truck there and they have bent over backwards for me to gain my business. Last year, from Sept. thru Dec. I was in there every other week getting the oil changed. Each time I was as pleasant as possible, no matter what. Now they get me in ASAP and I can "visit" while they're working on him with no problems about remaining in the waiting room.
Oh, sorry, No additives unless the Dodge tech put it in and didn't tell me.

Just pulled the truck in under the shade tree in front of the house from another run. The mileage is now up to 327+k. There have been some problems, but more than likely this truck has gone thru more in a year than most will in a lifetime, it still pulls strong. All that being said, I'm dickering with a couple of dealers for a new cab and chassis model.
