This past weekend I saw both the Cooper Discoverer ATR and the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo tires both on Dodge diesels!!! Both were in the stock tire size but looked larger than my stock Michelin LTX AS's!!!???? A lot more aggressive tread without being a "mud tire"!!! How about you all who's running these and how are they doing for you?????? I'll probably need tires before next winter and want to get a jump on things!!!

I have had BFG All Terrain A/Ts on a lot of 4x4 trucks over the last 20 years or so. Many different sizes. I was always satisfied with them. They are a good compromise for moderate off road and mainly street use.

I have had BFG 315s on my truck since new. I have over 45,000 miles now and looks like I will get probably 10,000 more. That is about what I expected with this truck weight and my driving conditions. I also think they are the perfect size tire for this truck. With 3.73 gear the highway driving is in a great rpm range. I do have a 2" leveling kit that was put on new, so I have never had any rubbing.

I did have ONE DW incident and it was not the tires that caused it. That was over 35,000 miles ago and no issues since. I would recommend a shock upgrade with this big a tire. Always run close to max tire pressure, balance and rotate at least every 8,000 miles and they will last a lot longer.

Just installed some Goodyear Wrangler 'Silent Armor' tires. Yeah, Goodyear doesn't seem to have a very good reputation, but a lot of their new tires seem to be getting good reviews. I installed 265-70/17 Load Range E, they come with a 50k mile warranty, and are even severe snow rated like the BFG ATs. They look like a 'light' AT tire or an agressive highway tire, and seem to be as quiet as the stock Michelins. I was considering some Bridgestone AT Revos but they don't offer a warranty and aren't severe snow rated. I've just been on the road so far, but they look like they'll at least do better on wet grass :^)

Toyo MT's

You might think this is crazy, but when I had my lift put on my truck, I went from bfg 285's (no problems or death wabble ever) to 35x12.5xr17 Toyo MT's. As soon as I left the Les Schwab, not only did I notice the heavy rumble associated with the aggressive tread (not my favorite) but the truck pulled to the right. My first impression was that it was the lift. Took it back 3-4 times and it always pulled to the right. Rotated tires, alignment, you name it...pulled to the right. Finally switched to the 35x12.5xr17 SXT Mud Terrain...stopped pulling to the right and smooth as can be! Guy's at Schwab did some research and told me that they have found that the 17r MT Toyo has been problem on Dodges for some reason. Had to switch out another guy too. I think the Toyo MT is really good looking, but rode like crap unless you are going over 50 mph. I like a good ride because I don't want everything rattling loose on my truck over time.

I've had BFG 315's on H2 wheels for about 30k miles. They're holding up pretty well, and when they're worn out I'll replace them with another set, as I bought 2 sets, tires and wheels, new(takeoffs) from a local Hummer dealer for $100.00 apiece, and I've got the other set sitting in my garage.

Anyway, I've never had a rubbing issues,(H2 offset is different than stock), and with no leveling kit, I've not yet had any death wobble problems, in my opinion the leveling kit, not the tires, cause of the death wobble, it lifts the front end but the geometry changes since the other suspension components are at a different angle than they were before. Just my opinion.

I like the Toyo's

My '03 QC came stock with the BFG 265's. Good tires, I got nearly 75k on them before swapping them out, with some tread left. (rotated them with every oil change)
I later purchased a set of the KORE/Weld 18" wheels and a set of Toyo M/T in 35"x 18. Great tires for off road, a bit loud for a daily commute on the highway. Also, they changed the feel of the truck in terms of gearing. I put these on for trips into the desert or Baja, so I don't have to live with them as daily driver tires.. Holding up very well with about 6k on them.
Two weeks ago I purchased a set of Toyo A/T 285/70/17's to replace the stock BFG 265's. I love these tires. They are fairly quiet and offer good handling. They're close enough to the BFG's that the speedo is only off by about 1-2 mph. Although I've had a number of BFG tires on various vehicles, I think I'm a Toyo buyer from now on. Hope this helps.

i would buy the BFG's, a great tire, i have about 50,000kms, and still about 25,000kms left in them for sure. the money you are going to save, you can buy the 2"spacers, and your truck will look better, with no rub.
not sure about the other tires every one else has commented on, i have tried the coopers, and never again, that was the worst tire i have ever bought. i would rather drive around town with a swamper bogger then buy them again.

I got almost 35k out of my bfg 285's and probably would of went 1 or 2 more. But I decided to go with the new mickey thompson baja atz 285 this time. Same specs as the bfg But they ride better and they are quiet. And I think they look better.

Tires

BFG sidewalls are tough as nails so if your off roading is in rocks creek beds etc I dont think you can beat them. The seem great in snow too. However you must rotate & balance them regularly! From what I understand 50% off road failures are from sidwall slashes.
I had heard that General Grabber 2's were a fantastic off road tire too...
I like the Bridgestone Revo's
I dont like Goodyears I heard the sidewalls are thin as a paper...
No thoughts on Open Country's other than the Pick up's I see them on all seem to be pretty close to bald. Dont know what that means...

If I'm not mistaken the Nittos are rated at 3195 lb at 65 p.s.i.

I really like the BFG's and Nittos, but will probably end up with a 285/70-17 Toyo AT because of the E-rating. I don't want to drop down to a D-rated tire because I have my eyes on a 14,000 lb GVWR 5th wheel.

BTW, has anyone tried the new Pirelli ATRs? Available in 265/70/17 E and 285/70/17 D. Good looking tire.
