Heater Air Door Broken

Has anyone else had the air door break in the heater box?
It looks like a bear to fix.
Anyone done it before? Short cuts or tips would be great.
thanks

Well to piggy back on this one...

Mine quit working right today, but not sure what the culprit is (assuming it's most likely to be blend or recirc door)... I can move where the air goes, ie, defrost, vents, floor, but when on vents, the passenger side blows cold and the drivers side is warm, on defrost its cold air out the top and bottom both sides of the truck...

I have the Dual climate controls if that makes a difference...

I've already read until my eyes hurt and can't find the same situation I am having...

thanks for any help! I need to use the truck Friday for a long trip!

What year truck?

First post, no signiture.
My 2006 just went and there are no parts left for that Model Year. Being that mine failed during the warranty period, they upgraded me to a 2008 heater box, wiring, evaporator, and control head. Crossing my fingers it lasts this time.

Someone on this great site once posted to only move ANY climate control **** after setting the fan speed to the lowest and waiting 10 secs for the air speed to drop. That way the doors aren't fighting the resistance and breaking.
I do this religiously!
Also on cold mornings, under 20F, I wait for the motor to warm.
I do this after moving the hot/cold control one morning without the fan on and hearing a snap and something fall down behind the dash. I now assume the plastic was brittle.

PITA I know............

From what I understand, the computer that runs the HVAC occasionally runs the flap motors until they stall, to calibrate for their range of motion.

There was a post a while back about a company that makes metal replacements, and has a repair procedure that doesn't require removing the housing (by cutting windows in the housing).

My recirc door is broken, for the second time, and I'm considering the metal replacement door(s), but I've been looking for feedback on here as to the fit, ease of replacement and quality of heatertreater's metal parts.

So far I haven't gotten a response . . . has anyone tried them??
