Group 31 battery install

I understand from reading many posts on battery install that a group 31 Sears Die Hard Platinum has been done in the past. Can I ask for your help to locate that project thread?

I'm planning on doing this to my '08, since it's my tow rig and I'm going to run a larger air compressor and tank for my train horns.

Just waiting for summer to take vacation ......

The 5500 is starting to pause a bit when it cranks, I might be doing this a little earlier than expected myself..

Edit:

Truck is in my shop trying to figure which battery just died..

It's easier (and recommended) that you swap them out in pairs. I had this happen with my '03 and after a couple of days I just swapped them both. It wasn't worth the hassle or my time trying to figure out which one was the culprit, and since they were 5 years old at the time I just chalked it up to part of normal maintenance.

I have plans for the stock batteries anyway, so I'm really losing out on anything.

You're going to change the batteries on your 08 already? Why? I'm assuming your truck will be running when you're using your compressor?
Guy at work has a 2001, still has the original batteries.

When I had starting problems last fall on my '08, I went to Autozone and had the batteries tested. They were able to show me which one was bad. I then used the bad one and a junker from home for my core charge turn-ins, and put the one that wasn't bad into my Brimar dump trailer.

X2

I want to know which battery to keep around the shop and which one to turn in as a core..

You are correct both batteries should be replaced at the same time and with batteries of the same build date..

Yeah the engine will be running when I use the compressor, but I'm getting an Oasis XD3000 so I need an extra battery closer to it.

One of the stockers is going into the bed of the truck for the compressor, and the other is going into a custom battery box on the RV with the deep cycle battery so I'll always have a way to start the generator.

I'm having way too much fun with the train horns and decided I should just go with a bigger tank but didn't want to have 2 or more compressors, so the XD is the better choice.

I guess you know then, there's actually train horn forums? Some guys take them serious, those big 5 way suckers sell for 900 bucks or something...?

Well it's official, One dead - One good

I thought the 05's would go first, with my luck might as well buy 4 and do both trucks

I will post pics on this install, so far the only mods I see are new hold down brackets and rerouting the PS ground cable over the inter-cooler to turbo boot..

Yup, I'm on those forums already.

The K3LA currently on my truck goes on the wife's this summer when I install the K5LLA (Amtrak horns) and the new compressor with larger tank.

And if you look in the right places you can spend a lot less than the 900 bucks (new prices, the K3LA is more like $1100, and the K5LA is more like $1500).
