Is this a good deal...

So I'm going to shop for a second Dodge Ram, I like my 1st gen so much that my wife and I decided to replace her GMC Yukon with a CTD Ram.
We found an 05 Quad Cab, 4x4, all the electronic stuff, with 128K asking 21,000
Does this sound like a good deal?
My 1st gen has 220k on it and the engine is as solid as when new, the rest of the truck needs some attention though, are the newer Rams as durable as the older ones?

Figured asking a few hundred owners would yield the most accurate results

Thanks guys

One more question:
What should I be looking for (what components would be bad at this millage?)
I hear a lot about the Death Wobble in these newer trucks, what would be the best way to start a DW? I would like to have the salesman in the truck with me so he could experience it too. Do all of the newer trucks have the DW?
Ok more than one question.

Not all newer trucks have the DW isue. I have had an 04.5 and now this 06 and have never had the DW isue nor has anyone I know with a 3rd gen. The one major isue with those miles would be ball joints and the obviouse wear isues like breaks and U joints.

Bring a floor jack ,4X4, and a long prybar or pipe. Jack up the front end and use the pipe and 4x4 to see if there is any free play in the tire.

You did not say so I used a 2500, $21,000 is Clean Retail, Trade in 15,800 to 16,700. Now these are all just sh prices because I have not seen it OK just kidding had to use it. But not kidding about the prices. All depends on how they sell in your area too. Around here you can not find one to save your self. Last one I got was from CA and I am in WI 2800 miles!! 2001 $14000, 166,000 miles. New Trans, new VP44, New AirDog + every A/C part replaced. So I paid up for it. And I almost forgot Godzilla + 125 HP Jammers.

Get a load of that box canopy and interior.. Nice looking truck. I can't comment on the price, but to have that kind of interior in the box lends me to think it was not an abused truck.

Hmmm,

I would say it is high on the price. Add-ons are nice, but I would say $16-18k is more reasonable.

I shopped when I rolled my 96 (slowly, just ruined the cab) and bought a 04.5 in 2008 with 32k for $20k. Screaming deal then, could still get that now.

I would watch it, but keep shopping around. Used craigslist and other search options to search nearby states. Take your wife on a vacation and drive the truck back. For an 03-05 you should be mid to upper teens on price.

My .02... Nice looking truck, but I wouldn't go more than $17-18k.

So here is the truck I ended up
buying, so far a great truck.

I highly recommend this seller for anybody in the So Cal area, they have more diesels than anyone else.

But I do need to re-calibrate the computer for the 35" tires, does anybody know how to do this other than the Smarty type tunners?

California screws you on sales tax for both dealer and private sales, as well as out of state purchases.

On the truck you purchased: I like the low miles, but the lift, gauges, and the price would scare me.

I thought the same about the lift and gauges, but after driving it for a while (and having owned other lifted trucks) the suspention felt tight, steering was also very tight. Its only a 3" lift so not too concerned about geometry.

Gauges were installed by a pro, thats always a good indicater of what the previous owners outlook on the truck was.

I paid 29500 with 4 new tires, these trucks are VERY hard to find where I live, I feel it was a good deal.

I paid $12,000 for my 2006 QC LWB 2wd with 160,000 on the odometer. I think it was a pretty decent deal and I have known the truck and its owner since new. I told them when they bought it I wanted it when they sold it and I got it!

The Diesel pickup market pricing has fallen way off in the last few years it seems. Good thing for a buyer but not so much for a seller.

I don't think the market has fallen off in AZ. My dad traded in his 2007 F-250 Lariat CC 4x4 a few months ago. They gave him $26,000 for it, with the sales tax savings it was equivalent to the KBB private party value. They weren't hiding the numbers as his 2011 Touareg TDI was at invoice price.

When I was in the market in 2008 I searched and searched for a private party deal on truck locally (no sales tax on private deals in AZ), but ended up going to Colorado for my perfect truck (as I would have ordered it except I wanted power pedals for my short wife). $25600 with tax and extended warranty for my 2006 in 2008 with 14K miles. As luck would have it, 2 weeks later I saw a very similar truck with 24K miles for sale locally for $20K, but oh well.

Thats a great deal! I guess I could have traveled a bit for the truck and saved some, but I wanted to have the dealer where I bought close by in case of any issues. And so far the front wheel bearings and maybe the steering box are most likely going to be replaced, for free.
