Fyi...
I have no idea whether this will benefit others, but since I see so many threads started asking what's wrong, I thought I would start one telling what worked...I started having a problem with the truck in my sigline while shifting out of park into any gear after starting the engine...Yes, I always had my foot on the brake...Sometimes I could try again and immediately be successful...Other times it took dozens of tries to make it work...Sometimes moving the tilt wheel lever helped, other times it did not...As a retired mechanic I know what headaches an intermittent problem can cause, and I told my mechanic as much...I suspected the shift interlock switch, to which he added the brake light switch could also be at fault...
Naturally he could not duplicate the problem in the two days he had it, but in the following week after picking it up, it happened twice to me...I returned to him and said I wanted to try replacing both switches (not cheap at all), and he agreed, although reluctantly because like me he doesn't like changing parts without knowing for sure they are the cause of the problem...I have always thought of that as chasing mice with a shotgun...But the parts were replaced with genuine Mopar straight from the Dodge dealer...He did mention that the cable on the interlock switch is difficult to adjust correctly...That was two weeks ago, and the problem has not returned...
However the day after getting the truck back, the brand new brake switch failed causing the Electronic Throttle Control light to illuminate and the cruise control to quit working...The ETC light had not previously illuminated...He replaced it with another new one and I've had no further problems...I hope this helps someone else who might have the same problem, and if anyone cares to comment, or to tell of what fixed other non-driveline related problems, feel free to add to the thread...
