Fuel Tank Skid Plate install pics
Fuel Tank Skid Plate install pics
Finally got around to mounting the fuel tank skid on the megacab.
All the same parts from the quad cab/Power Wagon
The crossmember that hold the front of the fuel skid is the same part # that holds the rear of the T-case skid.
Parts required...
52121265AB skid plate assy-fuel tank
52022046AE c/member
06507342AA bolt (x10)
All holes drilled with a 1/8" pilot followed by a letter "H" drill
Went together pretty straightforward. Nothing to remove unless you have the plastic full wheelwell liner.(drivers side)
I did have to loosen and rotate one muffler clamp 90* so as not to contact the c/member.
Start with the passenger side rear mount. It will locate the skid fore and aft.
Then raise the skid and c/member assy into place as high as possible just shy of contacting the tank with the c/member.Then drill the rest of the holes and run the last 6 self threading bolts down snug.(about a half a turn before they strip out
)

start with the pass side rear mount. Drill and bolt tight

pass side front(c/member) the existing large hole is not used

Drivers side front. (once again the existing holes are not used)

Here's the drivers side rear center punched and ready for drill

Here are some pics of a 2008 power wagon I used for reference
It uses an upgraded beefier crossmember
It also has the three "skid rails" but they are too short for the megacab.
You quadcab guys can mount those up, too.Keeps big rocks fror getting wedged up in there.

Nice install. Looks factory (which is the point, I guess).
Two interesting things I noted; your mega cab has a two piece drive shaft and the power wagon comes with Bilstein shocks from factory (or dealer installed maybe). My mega cab w/6.7L and auto has a one piece shaft like the power wagon.
Nice hood too BTW and love the trail shot.

You would have to drive like an idiot to make this skid fail.
Therefore it should be more than adaquate for most folks here.
Its 1000% better than nothing and 60% cheaper than a new tank

Thanks, I've been looking to do this for a while now. The plastic tank is there out in the open waiting for something to puncture it. It'll be another place for snow to pack up in the winter though and flood my garage when it all melts.
