Re:Fuel milage on new truck
After I used up the fuel that was in the truck when I purchased it I filled up and set odometer and checked the mileage on the first full tank. I got 13.5 in combined driving. I'm told that you need to get the engine fully broke in before you will see your best mileage and depending on how you work the truck it can take up to 15,000 miles to get in broke in if you don't work it hard. My advice is to not get worried about your mileage right now. Lots of people are reporting better mileage figures than what you are getting so just put on the miles and the mpg will improve.

My first tank was 14 MPG*. After about 2,500 miles I was averaging 17 to 18 MPG. Now, I'm averaging 19.7 MPG after 6 months and 6,000 miles.

* all MPG figures calculated by hand and after running 50/50 city/highway miles unloaded.

Best to y'all
Bill

Re:Fuel milage on new truck
Sittinbull2 - your mileage will improve as your truck gets broken in. The 2500's will get about 2 mpg better than our 3500's. My first tank was 15, then a couple of tanks at 16, now getting almost 17; I have the same set-up as you do, so we should get close to the same if you do 70 percent highway and 30 percent city and keep the cruise rpm at 1900 - 2000. I now have 2900 miles on the truck, and will begin towing my 5th wheel trailer to get the "final polish" to the engine that the owner's manual talks about. Mileage also gets better when the winter blended fuel is replaced by the normal summer fuel (straight deisel # 2). My old '99 gave me my final mileage improvement at 60k miles, so it does take some time to get these motors completely "broken-in". Welcome to the site, and enjoy your truck.

After 1100 miles I'm averaging 17MPG. Hope to improve some. 90% of my driving is during a 47 miles one way commute to work with approximately 40 miles of open highway.

Re:Fuel milage on new truck
My mileage never increased and I've got 19,000 miles. My best tank was 22.2 and my "average" tank was around 17.5. I've only gotten 20+ three times although I've never gotten below 16 mpg except when towing.

I did get a mileage increase after adding the Edge EZ and my average tank is over 18 mpg now. A lot more power and better mileage, too. What a deal!

I AVERAGE 19 MPG OVERALL BETTER WHEN RUNNING 60 MPH, LESS WHEN RUNNING 75 MPH OR MORE. ALL MILEAGE CALCULATED USING GPS ,SO I KNOW ITS RIGHT . HOPE THIS HELPS. HERE'S A PIC OF MY BABY, HOPE YOU CAN GET IT. OH , BY THE WAY I NOW HAVE 12000 MILES ON THE TRUCK.
