Folding Towing Mirrors Repeatedly
Being that our garage entry is standard size, we have to fold our towing mirrors in every time we garage the Ram.
Does anyone have an opinion on possible long term harm this will do to the mirror mechanism (getting sloppy, not working, etc?)
Thanks,
David

I do the same thing every time I park it in the garage. I did the same thing on my last truck without problems. I don't let it snap shut really hard. I sort of "cradle" it with both arms (sounds weird!) and let the mirror fold in slowly without a big BANG.

I am new to this forum and just ordered our truck today, with tow mirrors, and I am curious as to the width of the mirrors. I have 9' wide doors, will I also be folding them every time?

On a standard door(9') wide, with some rubber trim in the way, I don't have to fold my mirrors in...but I've only got about an inch on either side for clearance...that's not alot, but enough....thinkin about putting in an 18' or 20' door(rather than 2 -9 footers) in though!!!!

Well I'll have to see how my nerves hold out with an inch to spare on each side. In a couple of years I plan to build on to the barn and I will put a 10 or12' door on that.

David-
Where do ya live? I've got a chainsaw that will cure that problem with your garage.
Seriously though, I am in the same boat with the 9ft door people. I am just very careful pulling in and have managed to not hit my mirrors on the garage for the 9 months I've owned the truck. I got about 1" to 1.5" a side as I pull in. It's a pain, but something I'll have to live with until I can build me an outbuilding.

I'lll say they are pretty tough. I have the same amout of space and quit folding mine. Both have paint on the ends and the trim on the door is splintered, but the mirrors work great. No problem if it is quite, radio off, dog out front in sight, etc. One day we got home at the same tiime, she got and for some reason waited for me to back in. Wham! I hit the left one backing, Blam, I hit the right one going forward, never have been able to get the paint off.
It was pretty scarey, but no alingment problems, I am pretty careful now.

My friend just got a Chevy 2500...It has folding power mirrors. He hits a switch and they fold in. i wish I had them, I'm getting tired of doing them manually everytime I pull into the garage.

Yeah Mike, that would have been a nice option. It really defeats the benefit of being able to wait to get out of the truck until you're in your garage when it's really raining. At best, we still have to open our windows to fold the mirrors in.
Come on aftermarket!
