Do you really need the dust shield on the front hub? Last fall when i replaced a u joint it got pretty damaged removing the hub (didn't know about the power stearing trick). Now the dust shield is almost ready to fall off. Getting ready to replace the hub and ball joints, and was wandering if you could get rid of it alltogether or do I need to have one on it?

 

Get a new one or two before you tear into it.Its not so much the dust as it is the road debris that it keeps out.Plus there prolly cheap.

 

Just ordered a couple. Come to find out they are a dealer only part.

 

how much were the shields?

 

they were around $24.00 each.

You'r welcome. You could probably get them for about $5 if they were a aftermarket manufacture for them. Dang dealership has a hell of a markup on parts.

 

i would of tried and called around like a junk yard or two and priced some. Im sure that they would have what you need

 

No such luck in these parts. No junk yard within 50 miles had any.
