Don't do this! Dash lights were flashing!
OKAY, I admit it. Looking back on what I did might be considered stupid.
I turned the key to on and was waiting for the engine heater to turn off so I could start 'er up. I decided to reset the trip odometer. You got to hold that trip button for a couple seconds to reset. I was holding in the trip od button when the heater light goes out. SOOOO, I started 'er up, but I've still got my hand on the trip od button.
Scared the crud out of me.
Every dash lights came on, the odometer repeatedly flashed 888,888.88, the fuel gauge went from empty to full in jerky movements and back down, etc. I snapped the key off & thought - now I've fried something. I waited a few moments and she started right up. The truck seems okay, no problem in last 4000 miles ago.
Anyone know if I damaged anything?
Thanks

Don't worry, you didn't damage anything. You just invoked the self test diagnostic. It can be used to show trouble codes on the digital display. It also verifies that all gauges and idiot lights are working.

All you did was trigger the guage/dash light check mode. It's built in from the factory to check all dash lights and guage motions. Your truck was just doing what it was supposed to do...

Thanks,
I didn't damage anything.
I feel better.
17000 in 5 months; average mpg is 21.8. I drive easy. Under 2000 rpm and don't accelearte hard (unless the situation demands a little foot pressure)

Also with the key in the on position and your normal odometer reading showing if you push and hold the trip button down for approx 6 seconds the readout will show the total number of hours your motor has been running!
