difference between 2500 and SRW 3500

OK, probably been asked many times before, but isn't the only difference between the 4x4 2500 and 4x4 SRW 3500 the rear springpack? I got ahold of a salesmans model catalog with about all the technical data I could handle and it seems that the frames, frame wall thickness, rearends, brakes, etc. ...... are the same except for the sticker on the doorjam and the rear springs. Anyone willing to point out a true or false ?

True, that is the only difference and the 3500 has cab lights. Other then the sticker stating the weight rating, a set of air bags will fix not having the over load springs. Heck, the 3500 needs air bags too. My 4 wheeler will make it squat.

X2, same truck, one has 30lbs in springs which when loaded makes no difference. However, we feel different when driving the 3500's. jk

3500

Yeah, kinda weird huh. Twenty years ago there was a HUGE difference in a 3/4 ton truck and a 1 ton truck. When I was shopping for a used truck I was avoiding the 3500 because I didn't want a stiffer ride. After some investigation I found no difference except the overload spring pack, same ride, same brakes, etc. Go figure??

That varies widely by state. Here in Tennessee my wife's LIberty, my '93 Mustang LX and my 2500 all are $49 a year. I "think" any four wheel under 10,500 GVWR and NOT commercial licensed is the same price. Not owning a bigger truck or a dually, I don't know that for sure.

in Va,

its 1,100 a year for the 06... 180 for the 95 , the 06 chevy "work" van 345 the 06 ford escape 548, they are nuts [duhhh]

1100 a year.... :o

I hope thats for some sort of commercial registration, my 2500 for a heavy duty "B" plate (20,000 GVWR) is only about 70 bucks a years. The wifeys 08 Durango Limited is bout 40 bucks every two years.

shorter tires, longer wheel studs, over load springs, fender flares, 6 wheels instead of 4 (obviously). arent there some differences in the front end as well? seems like question was posted before and some other differences were found up front.
Ram 2500 specs:
* Towing capacity: 15,650 pounds
* Payload capacity: 9,000 pounds

Ram 3500 specs:
* Towing capacity: 16,350 pounds
* Payload capacity: 12,200 pounds

I couldn't pull my trailer with a single rear wheel truck. the tires just wouldn't handle the load.

TexasCTD 12-22-2008 12:36 PM

SRW 3500 trucks are rated at 9900lbs GVWR. And FWIW......they are all rated either 21,000 or 23,000 GCVWR (truck and trailer and all cargo) based on rear axle ratio....3.73 vs. 4.10 gearing.

My overloads came in pretty handy with this load on my SRW 3500. No airbags yet. But my tires were definately overloaded.

2200lbs of sand......and 2800lbs of concrete blocks = 5000lbs.

Yep, definately a difference with a dually, but I'm comparing single rear wheeled trucks. Thanks for all the input, when I attain my geezerdom I will have KNOWLEDGE !

He asked about the differences between the 2500 and 3500 SRW. The differences you pointed out in the first part of your post is for dually. Front end, rear end, drive line, brakes, wheels, tires are all the same between the SRW trucks. Rear springs, clearance lights standard, door sticker and badging are the differences.

DIESELDENT 12-22-2008 02:21 PM

The only reason i got a 3500 was the price, the only differance was the overloads and mine doesnt even have cab lights.
