Dealer price for oil change?
The dearler wants about $60. I get mine done at Jeffy Lube for $32 with tax. I watch them close but so far (18 months and 3 changes) no problems. (knock on wood). I also understand that some Wal-marts do it for about the same price.
Here is the DYI cost.
3 gallons Delo = $18.60
Fleetgaurd Stratpore filter = $8.40
Running total = $27.00
Getting dirty Cummins engine oil on your clean body = Priceless

Seriously 30 bucks sounds cheap I bet you get the cheap filter and oil made for a gasser but I have been told they work cheap down in Texas but 3 bucks an hour I don't think so

My last change was $75.00 including tax in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, B.C., sounds like you got the off island rate flatlander.
Re: Dealer price for oil change?
Neil,
go to your local Wally World (Wallmart). I know you have one in Simi. I have taken my truck to the Oxnard Wally's and they charge me the normal oil change price, plus the extra 8-9 quarts of oil at the shelf price. they will use either Chevron Delo or Shell Rotella oil. Total out the door price $34.00. At that price I am having them do it every 3000-3500 miles.

The lady that answered said it would be around $30 because of the amount of oil it took. That seems kinda low. Is she full of cr@p or is this about right. She didn't inspire confidence that she knew what she was talking about.
How much have you guys (that use the dealers) been paying???
Also, I got a quote from a local Valvoline oil change shop (like JiffyLube, but owned by Valvoline) for $42. They use the right oil, but they said they use a Valvoline branded oil filter. Anyone know who makes it for them???
Thanks,
Neil

my new truck came with a oil change card. they said that i would have to pay $16.00 to change my oil because of the extra oil that the cummins takes (they will only put in 5 qts. and the rest is extra). sounds like a good deal but i don't trust the dealer so i will do all the maintance as usual.
i feel a lot better when i do my own maintance. then i know it gets done right.

I am in Barrie ont and one dealer is $115 Cdn and the other one is $75 Cdn. I went to my local Cummins shop bought the oil and filter for just under $45 Cdn and did it my self. I took my waste oil to Candian Tire they complained that it was to much 12 ltrs but what ever. As for When i am in Nanaimo I wouldnt go to those crooks at Neals Nanaimo Chrysler (Kevin O'bryan general sales crook) they pretty much gave me the cold shoulder the day after i bought my truck from them. Well lucky for them I had friends buy their dodges in Courtenay BC instead of Nanaimo, well nothing like loosing truck and car sales over a set of tires.
Anyways sorry for that guys, I recommend if you can, do all your oil changes yourself. It is alot cheaper ie the difference between $45 every 10000 km or $75- 100 think of the savings for all your other projects especiall if you put alot of km on like i do. also at least you know your two grease fittings get greased unlike most of the dealers who didnt even know their were any.

3 gallons of Rotella T/Delo 400/Delvac 1300 and a Straopore filter is 30 dollars.
I am a DELVAC fan but honestly between the 3 listed above probably no huge difference. I bought Delo because Walmart carries it... I used to use Delvac 1 but don't want to put it in my 160K mile old engine for fear of leaks. At $30 for an oil change vs $100 I was paying with Delvac 1, I can afford to carry around an entire oil change or 2 in my truck.
As suspected, the $30 quotation by the lady on the phone (where DO they get these people?) was bunk. I dropped off the truck this morning and the service attendant was nice enough to give me the coupon price of $58.95. I thought that was more like it.
Thanks everyone for your input on this.

Brian,
I went there twice with my Ford because they sold Rotella T and the Ford oil filters right there in the store. Both times, I had to watch those guys like a hawk to make sure they put in the right stuff and they never did get the receipt to print out with the right information (in case I ever had to prove that the right materials were used). I finally gave up on that place, bought the oil and filter there and then hauled it all down to my local 10 minute oil change place and had them do it. At least they were easier to watch.
I made the decision to let the dealer do the maintenance on this vehicle. I may change my mind. But, for now, with all the compaints about denial of service, etc., I just don't want to have those issues. Everything is going to be by the book . . . unless I have trouble getting my fiver up the Sherwin Grade (Calif. Hwy 395) in which case it's gonna get bombed

I just payed 52$ for an oil change with a cheap mopar filter.
I'm really losing confidence in this dealership. First, they quoted me $30. Then, I brought it in and they told me $58.95. I picked it up and get handed a bill for $44. They grabbed the bill back from me saying " . . . that can't be right, hold on . . ." and they reprinted the bill (forgot to add labor) for the right amount. Vehicle description on the ticket was "DODGE VAN".
I get in the truck and notice the little "reminder" sticker on the windshield says change again by 12/30 or 9160 miles (it now has 6160). The book says 15k or 7.5k between changes. I figure I'll be extra cautious and do it every 5k (yeah, yeah - I was a little late on this one). Obviously, the person filling out the sticker was working on the basis of a regular gasser (every 3k). I plan to do it again at 10k and every 5k after that.
Arrrgggggghhhhhhh. Now I'm wondering if they used the right stuff (i.e. oil and filter).
The people at Walmart are suddenly starting to look competent!
Neil
i went to my dealer the first time and oil change and fuel filter cost me 119.00 bucks! they dont advertise that labor is extra!
rip off! then i went elsewhere but ill be doing my own from now on. i quit doing it cause it was such a deal for all they do but i took my cummins back both times to have them de grease it. they wont take the time to bag your filter just let it run on the axel. sooooooooooooo sorry for the rant
