Dealer price for oil change?
Dealer price for oil change?
OK. I just got off the phone with the service dept. at my local Dodge dealer. I asked how much an oil change would cost me. The lady that answered said it would be around $30 because of the amount of oil it took. That seems kinda low. Is she full of cr@p or is this about right. She didn't inspire confidence that she knew what she was talking about.
How much have you guys (that use the dealers) been paying???
Also, I got a quote from a local Valvoline oil change shop (like JiffyLube, but owned by Valvoline) for $42. They use the right oil, but they said they use a Valvoline branded oil filter. Anyone know who makes it for them???
Thanks,
Neil

$59.99 at Autonation (Elway) Dodge. This drive-in service (30 minutes) includes the standard belt & hose checks, fluid top-offs, etc., etc. I can't believe dealers would do a diesel (12 qts. ?) for much less, except for ocassional promotions.
Yeah. I thought $30 was ridiculous. Like I said, she didn't exactly inspire confidence. I'll try calling again later and see if someone more knowledgable answers the phone.
I might just buy an oil filter and go to the Valvoline place. They said they'd install one that I bring in. Besides Genos, DC dealers and Cummins dealers, do NAPA or any of the auto parts chains carry a decent, approved oil filter? I guess I could always buy the filter from DC - but, if I do that, I may as well just have them change the oil.
Thanks,
Neil

$60 sounds like a really good deal to me. We charge about $75 for most diesels at my shop. I believe Valvoline filters are made by Purolator. I was going to let Dodge do the first oil change on my new truck.

Just got mine done by the dealer today. The cost was $65.48. I purchased the extended warentee and as an incentive the dealer will provide three years of free oil changes, so I was out $0.00
! I woulf hev to agree with most folks here that the $30.00 price is way to low.

$115.00 plus taxes on Vancouver Island in BC ( "Bring Cash") Canada! $80.00(tax included) in Moose Jaw,Sask,Canada...no extra charge for sitting in the truck with dirty cover-alls, and scratching fender from leaning into engine bay!
My dealer wants $50 for an oil change. My father in law's Ford dealer ships wants $70 for an oil change on his F350. I pay $0......yeah that's right $0. My dealer's service department sells a "Oil Change for Life package" for $600 for diesel trucks. Its free oil changes for as long as you own your truck, period. You can bring in every 3k miles or every 3 months, what ever is first. You can pay $450 to get one that is every 3 months (but not every 3K miles). As a result I change my oil every 3K miles, and have taken it in 3 times in 5 months. I figure I come out even in about 1 1/2 years of owning this truck, and after the oil changes truly are free.
If anyone in DFW TX wants info, PM me. The service department sells to anyone, regardless if you purchased your vehicle there.

I'm just glad I got free oil changes for the life of my truck thrown in with my deal! Already used it twice, in and out in 30 minutes each time. Got to love that deal. Both times I went, the service guy says I was lucky to get that deal!
They ran that promo in May and no longer run it.
