Cruise Control Surging (programmer related)

I went on a trip today to Arizona, and decided to upload my truck ('07 5.9/auto) with my Superchips programmer to the "Performance". Fuel milage was great, but under 80 MPH with my cruise control activated, it wanted to surge. It felt like when you are pulling a trailer on a bumpy road feel. I went back to "tow" mode and it was fine. Obviously, it is programmer related, but why?? (Superchips was close by the time I tried to get a hold of them).
It sucks that I can't use the setting and cruise at the same time

Thanks

I have had similar problems. Seems its usually due to the increased power in the throttle and the computer tries to keep it in line with the speed, especially in the descents. Some trucks show it more than others, and sometimes will lessen or worsen.

Surging + Rain = Heartattack

And you really have to watch it in the rain... I had my cruise set at 55 going to a long construction zone and I started climbing a hill ... at the top of the hill it had slowed to about 53 and then all of a sudden it down shifted >> broke the tires loose and started jackknifing my trailer and pointing me into on coming traffic... Imagine trying to counter steer while trying to hit the cancel button!!! I could hit the brakes or the throttle.... Luckily I hit the cancel and got it back under control without hurting anyone or the rig... but I had to get out and take a walk!

Crusie control issue since new

My truck has done the cruise control surge thing since the day i bought it. With the programmer it is marginaly worse but according to three dealerships, theres nothing wrong with it. It drives me crazy and i have just gotten used to never using the cruise control. It is even worse towing. When I have my boat on it jumps so hard the surge brakes on my trailer flash on and off and has nearly caused an accident a few times. But don't worry, it "perfectly normal" haha

When I picked my truck up in Florida on the way home to NY, I noticed it would surge while using cruise. It was worse going up hill. I didn't know if the Banks six gun had anything to do with it, but I haven't tried cruise with the banks off yet.

My cruise is rock steady with or without my trailer (7500 lbs) in tow. There has to be an adjustment the dealer can make to adjust the sensitivity of your cruise control.

I get a hold of Superchips and update the thread (since this seems to be surprisingly common). We will see what there take is on this. And it would be great to find out if there is a way to adjust sensitivity too, on the cruise.

Dodge Techs, any tips??

it's a Torque Converter lock up issue...Maybe a result of the programmer but that just makes it MORE noticable

Mine surged a little when I had the edge juice and attitude on it, but it's rock steady with the bully dog on extreme.

I had the same problem with mine. Called superchip had it reflashed and still did it. Talked to the dealer that I bought it from he said that the fuel pump was not strong enought for any over 65 hp. So i returned it for full credit. Then I tried the power puck no luck with it either. Going to give smarty a call to see what they have to say. Dealer told me may be just that my truck will not acept a programmer. May try a edge. So for the long post. Just want something that works without all the headachs

Sounds like you taxed yours enough to where you should think about an after market, like either a fass or airdog. Mine wouldn't hardly keep up the stock setting, let alone any on the edge.

Guys my truck surges when in cruise but only going down hill (with or without programmer)... I went to the dealer for another problem and said something about the surging. They told me that they had a flash for the cruise control and that took care of it.
And for some reason that also fixed my over head computer for the miles per gal. It was showing between 24 and 28 mpg and now it is with in a mile or two and that is with my bully down programmer.

Mine does it too. Not all the time. I only notice when empty, towing it seems fine. Never felt it at all before I installed the Quad Xzt.
