Talking city and breaking in a new diesel

ok -

read a good article on breaking in your diesel.... link is below... thedieselstop.com....

http://www.thedieselstop.com/content...iesel%20Engine

the question is how is everyone going about breaking in thier truck in the city.... I am just wondering... I am going to try to follow the articles outline.... makes good scene to me.....

the other question can be of a little concern since the truck ends up in your hands.... what about when the truck was at the car lot and NO ONE really paid any attention to the most important first few 100 miles!!!?????

just a note..... that is alll......

I followed the no towing for the first 500 miles rule. After that I drove it like I stole it. The engine is ready to run right out of the box.

I actually ended up following that article pretty closely, although because that was how I already knew to break in engines in general. I actually noticed my normal (city) mileage increase by 1 mpg according to the overhead after a short tow the other day (trailer + 3/4-ton Chevy truck). Not sure whether or not that's accurate, but pretty interesting nonetheless. The thing I don't like is that, because my diesel is also my daily driver, it does end up getting some city use and it doesn't always get fully warmed up. So, when I know it's going to be a short trip, I try to have someone else drive their car instead!

Drive it lilke you stole out right of the box. Don't baby that thing. Treat it like a truck and load that heffer up and put her on hte road. If you baby it and don't use it like it should be used then it will let you down the first time you do later on down the road.
I had mine 4 months and had put 9k on it , I then pulled a TT accross country to really put it to work.
Oh yeah I switched to AMSOIL at 7k miles even though they said I should wait until atleast 20k

I don't think you should do any HEAVY towing for the first 500 or so miles. (nothing wrong with light towing).
After that, I agree, Drive it like you stole it. These are HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS, they were intended to be USED.
However, I believe that a prolonged idle is bad for them.

i was pretty easy on mine till 500 miles, after that I dogged the snot outta it.

Only thing I observed bout the break-in was to not tow right away to break-in the rear end

Yes, break-in, and do not use synthetic for 2 or 3 oil changes.

The PSD article on breakin had a typo (10,000 miles for broken).
