Can I tow a 5th wheel with a 6in lift?
I added a 6" I-beam to the frame of my 5th wheel, new spring brackets welded up also, then put the axle under the springs. Gained a ton of bed rail clearance which then also gave me more off-road capailities. It was not that expensive, more labor intensive than anything else. Nice part was that I could then put some storage boxes under the 5th wheel along the sides. I did move the tires up a couple sizes taller too. All in all it was an excellent way to solve the issues and still have the truck I wanted to have with taller tires, etc.
I have a friend with one of those tow buddy things, it does work well and does do the job but certainly looks pretty stupid.

Check out overall height. Some 5ers are pretty tall at the AC and you may not be able to clear some overpasses. Each state has some kind of spec on height, most are around 13' 4-6" I think. It should also be fairly level otherwise too much of the weight is transfered to the rearmost tires. And, as already mentioned. watch the bed rail to trailer clearance.
