a/c clutch engaging hard
2003 single wheel one ton ~185,000 miles.
Never had to service the a/c system other than adding 134a last year.
Since it's started warming up I've noticed the a/c clutch is engaging harder than normal, making a loud clicking noise when engaging.
134a checks good.
Compressor doesn't seem to be making any noises once it's turning.
I feel like I'm about to lose a compressor, is there anything I can do to remedy the issue or at least prolong the compressor's life?

Clutch may be on its way out. Mine did this for 2-3 years, then just quit. Found compressor and clutch unit online and just replaced the assembly. You may be able to find a clutch, but will have to hope the old one pulls off ok then set the air gap, not hard, but I felt 10 years was good service for orig. compressor.
