Buying new truck with Charge Card?

Has anyone done this at a dodge dealer? A friend of mine just bought his new BMW with his American Express, no hassel at all. Think of all the AMEX points! I might try it but will not tell the dealer untill the purchase contract is signed. I think they have too if they have the sticker on the door. I tried this when i bought my boat and the dealer gave me an extra 250 off and threw in some gear if i paid with a check, because of the % AMEX takes. They were very nice about it.<br>

This is actually a great concept, if you consider the possibilities (which I have...). You know all those annoying credit card things you get in the mail for 0% APR on balance transfers, etc.? Well, if you look closely at the term of that 0%, most of them are for about 6 months or so. However, some of the better cards, and/or those with better credit, get offers for 0% UNTIL THE BALANCE IS PAID OFF!!!! Granted there is a monthly minimum, but it's nothing like a full payment at 6-10% like normal car loan. At any rate, the plan would be this; buy the vehicle on your Credit Card A. Then, transfer the balance over to Credit Card B with that 0%, and pay it off on a normal schedule that YOU choose!! Now there are some things to consider, like the balance transfer fee (which again, on some offers is non-existant), and the fact that to a credit agency, having $30k+ in unsecured credit card debt does not look as good as $30k in car loan debt. But, if you're not planning to apply for any home loans or any other car loans while you are paying for your new 0% truck, who cares right?! I did this very thing on a Jeep Wrangler a number of years back, and it works well. Not to mention all the frequent flier miles I racked up from the purchase... ;D

just be careful because most of the 0% interest is for transfered balances only<br><br>also if you write a check from you credit card they may charge you up to 3% <br><br>if you miss one payment or are late just 1 day they will go up to something like 20%<br><br>so read all the fine print<br><br>to get away from the charge if i forget or the mail dont get there on time i have it drafted out of my checking account each month<br><br>i like to play the 0% games to but always be careful and dont get burnt by the fine print<br><br>i got one the other day and it was for 0% for life but i had to make at least 2 purchases a month to keep it at 0%<br><br>i dont know if there is a minimum purchase or not because if not i will purchase 2 bucks worh of gas twice a month

Note... I said charge card not credit card. Like American Express. You have to pay the ballance in full at the end of your billing period, so no interest. My credit limit on the visa would not buy me a new Ram, maybe a chev-s10. So has anyone done this?

My dealer would not let me put more than $1000.00 on my card unless I was willing to pay the 3% service charge the credit card company charges. Most companies won't take that much on AMEX because they have the highest rates. <br>I sold a moving truck to a mover and he gave me $15,000.00 on his AMEX and I caught heck from my boss because that amounted to around $700.00 in service charges to my company.

passing on the service fee is "illegal"

According to the terms of service, retailers aren't allowed to pass on the service fees to consumers. They could lose their ability to accept the cards - and they're pretty strict about this. I had a situation like this come up and called VISA about it. They wanted the companies name and all the details. I worked out something myself and didn't turn them in, but, if you're hard core about it....<br><br>

Thomas Dodge in Pt Jeff has a notice hanging up that charge cards are specifically NOT accepted to purchase, although they'll accept up to $1000 on a card...<br><br>Guess there are lots of reasons...<br><br><br>Rene

I used my Visa credit card for the full down payment on my truck. No problems whatsoever. I also make sure that all my credit cards are always paid down to zero before the due date so that I do not have to pay any interest.
