Blacked out bumpers

Well I'am sure it's been cover before, Who has had their stock chrome bumpers powder coated and is it holding up? How is the chrome surface prepped? Sandblasting? I'am going for the black monochromatic look. I want the stock bumper look, not aftermarket. I could order from dealer but just thought that I would explore this first. Thanks

ive beenthinking of doing the same thing. sand blasting then powder coating.

I have not done it because I think it wont cost me that much more to buy a aftermarket buckstop and then sell the stock bumper. Then I will have a bumper that looks better.

I have also thought about having the stock bumper covered in black vinyl. Thinking that may be cheaper than both routes.

I was thinking of having my front and rear bumper line-x'ed, I think that would be pretty cool plus you would get a lifetime warranty.

I bet you could get your stock bumper powder coated and sandblasted for under $200 after market bumpers are $1,500-2,500......

Do the Line-x, thats what i will do when i get to that point. Plus it would look awsome with my Line-xed rocker panels. I have other things to buy first before i start working on cosmetic's

Agreed. I bet you can get it done for less than $150. A bumper is easy to blast then coat.

I called a local sandblaster and he said they would blast and bake both of my bumpers for about $200. He said they dont remove the chrome, they just scuff it up a little. I may do this when i get the money. Please post pics if anyone does this im very interested as well. Joel

Thanks for all the input. We have local place that does powder coating, so I might go by and talk to them. I was just concerned about the ability of the coating to adhere to the chrome surface. I guess I will have to give it a try. Whatever the results, I will post it!
