BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO

I am getting 315/70/17 BFG. I am running stock BFG 265's right now. Will there be a big difference in ride quality on the highway?

Thank ya'll!!

If they are going on stock wheels, you will think they suck on the highway.
This is compared to stock size "E" rated tires. I have BFG's and the first time on the highway, I was ready to take these marshmellows off. I got used to it.

Something to consider: I've worn a set of 315/70 R17 to the wear bars in less than 22K miles. These tires are SOFT and spongy, wallow over medium bumps, follow ruts like a rail, and don't wear well under our heavy trucks. Also note there are two varieties of the tire; one with the snowflake/mountain and one labeled "Not rated for heavy snow". Based on my experience with these tires (the set of 315s, one set of 285 LRD and one set of 285 LRE) I won't own them again.

Got 40K each on two sets of BFG 315s, running one set on stock wheels and one set on H2s, with NORMAL driving and some limited towing. Never had any wear or handling complaints. Never any death wobble. They do ride a little softer, which, depending on your use, can be good or bad. These tires just did what I asked them to do. The only thing bad I have to say is regarding their knack for picking up rocks and slinging them into the underside of the truck.

I tow a lot now so I have gone to E rated tires, but wouldn't hesitate to go back to them if they fit my use parameters.

P.S. Miami, I am originally from Ashland.

Consider Bridgestone/Firestone E-rated 315's. They'll hold 65psi vs. 50psi on the KO's.

Going from stock to 315's is going to adversely affect your fuel economy.
They look good though.

If you do not correct the computer for tire size. The speedometer and odometer will read slow, when going to a larger diameter tire. Any discrepancy will be grossly exagerated if not corrected. The odometer mileage will be short by whatever percentage the tire size increase was.

Keep that in mind when you bolt on bigger rubber and go to calculate mpg after........

I got 50K miles out of a set, rotated them at every oil change, and also kept an eye on pressure, longevity is good wear was even all the way around.

You will not get the lifespan using them on stock wheels, they need a wider wheel, I ran H2's and also another set of wheels that were 9"s wide, better wheel fit, longevity.

They were nice and quiet running tires. Truck felt more planted on them. I tow heavy loads and they were just fine, no DW, no problems.

I've got'em. I love em. Very solid tire and very well wearing. I keep them rotated, I check pressure often. yes, they do pick up rocks, but I haven't had any problems from rocks. I run mine at full 80 psi all the time. I prefer a more solid ride. They will dig in soft ground like your peeling out using a chain saw. I'm almost half temped to plow the garden with them in the fall.

I went from E rated 265/70-17 Michelins to D rated 285/70-17 BFG A/T's with the snowflake, both on the stock wheels. The BFG's felt a little mushy when I put them on, affected handling a little bit, especially at freeway speeds. I got used to it though. I did a little towing, mostly in town driving, a little highway, and have about 35,000 miles on them now and they are just about bald. I'm down into the wear bars, wore the centers out. I think maybe it's because they are too wide for the stock wheel and the centers pooch out some, not sure. I ran 65 psi in the fronts and 45 to 50 rear unloaded. I'd air them up to 60 psi when towing. I did rotate them regularly and kept pressures, but they still seemed to wear out really fast.

I'm looking for some good E rated tires now, but man they are so expensive. I do like the look of the 285's though, looked a lot better than the highway 265's in the wheel wells.

I'd like to find some tall and skinny's and try to get some better fuel mileage.

The E to D was the cause of the mushy, not the tire brand. There's a big difference in those two ratings. And yes, the E's are more expensive. It was a big bullet to bite when I replaced my BFG's a few month's ago.

My experience with the 315/70 R17 was with a load range D. Last time I checked they didn't make a load range E in this size...

The make them now in the 'E' rating. Most places can roder them for you, but few stock them, or at least that's the way it is here in New Mexico.

The 315-70-17's are still rated as a D. The speed rating is higher on one though.

Looks like the original poster got his answer, so i'll add to it slightly.

Will the stock size (265-70-17) BFG E rated tire give a lesser ride quality over a Michelin HWY tread E rated tire ? I really like the look of the BFG AT and will consider them when it's time for new shoes.

Thoughts ?
