BFG All-Terrain T/A KO tires
 

It's been about 5 years since I've had to buy tires. It's been about 15 years since I have owned BFGs. Any reason not to get them? Any recent issues?

OMG. Talk about timing. My truck came with them. I liked the way they looked. They didn't have too many more miles on them so i got new ones. Thats when things went bad. Not too long after having them, one of the went wappy jawed, as in it wasn't round anymore and had lumps all over it. Thats when I learned I had not noticed the kid at Discount didn't add on the replacement certificates like I asked. I guess I should have not trusted him. So I had to buy another one. They did comp some of it for the remaining tread, but funny how they guy kept measuring the top of a lump that got wore down quick on the way back into the store instead of the almost brand new deep tread spots. Then a few weeks later, another one goes wappy jawed, then a day later, on the way back to Discount, a third one goes wappy jawed. I had to get on the phone and fight BFG to replace these tires. It took a few days and about 100 phone calls to finally get it done. I still have a set but with replacement certificates on them. So far this set has been OK. I religiously watch my inflation. I rotate them every 3,000 miles. I was letting discount rotate and balance them each time, until they cross threaded 10 lugs. Now I rotate them myself. In conclusion, I will NEVER buy another one of these junky tires again. Ever. I'm not sure what I would get to replace them because of the way they look. I like that part of them. My truck is 2WD but has had a really nice leveling kit on it with really wide and deep offset wheels. It looks mean and 4WD. It's kinda hard to guess what it will look like with 1 inch X 1 inch website pictures of tires. I keep saying I'll just get a new CTD with a fancy big screen radio when this set of tires start looking thin. Oh, and did I say I would NEVER EVER buy one of these tires again?

The older ones (pre-2007) seemed to be okay. Had them on my wife's '06 and they were fine until we needed to replace one after a puncture.

After that, it was all downhill. Honestly, it was more like the express elevator to Hell.

We ended up with Death Wobble one day, and I replaced all four, even the one that had about 10,000 miles on it.


Most folks here will tell you to avoid them like they have The Plague.

Thanks for the info guys! They have mostly excellent reviews on websites. I have read some terrible reviews too though. I'm also looking at Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac or Adventure. Due to a crappy situation I'm kinda limited to Sam's Club for options and can't wait much longer.

They work fine on my kid's '04 1500 .... but for the rides with the Cummins, they're horrible.

Not familiar with any BFG ATs after about 2009. Last set was 285s on my Mega Cab. Did not have any issues with them other than a couple took ALOT of weight to balance.
Few sets over the years before those were fine too.
Newer ones must be not as good quality.

Loved the BFGs on every Ram 1/2 ton and Scout II I ran them on. Had them on my 06 Mega Cab 2500 for less than a month before I yanked them- somewhere around 2009/10.

I don't know why they suck on a Cummins powered truck- sidewalls not strong enough maybe? But I won't run them on my Ram 2500 ever again. Way too much sidewall roll in the corners- leading to crazy steering feel.

Been running a set of 2014 take-offs this summer with the Firestone ATs. I really like the off-road traction (was just pulling felled trees from a lake shore this weekend- in soft, wet, grassy conditions) coupled with the nearly silent road noise that competes with the Michelin highway tires I've been running. I've never been a fan of Firestone- but so far I'm impressed.

I've got 31X10.50-15's on my amigo, I like them, but it's a lot lighter truck, too. Glad I read about these not holding up under load before I went and bought any for my diesel.

I was about to get BFG AT. A friend has them on his 07 CTD. He has to replace them after 30K. They wore down quickly for him. I didn't want to spend $1200+ every 30K, so I got the BFG Rugged Terrain 285/70/17 E. I only have about 3500 miles on them, but so far they are wearing great. They also handle great in the rain. I was told they are a new BFG design to compete with the Nitto. The side walls look like the Nitto tire. My only complaint is they pick up rocks. I have to take it easy after driving on gravel roads til they fling themselves free. Also, they have a 50K warranty and out the door for $1120.

I have a set of 315-70-17 E's on my truck, they ore ok. Much stiffer ride than the Geolandars I had previously though.

Are those the Goodyear?

Their website lists 315-70-17 BFG's as 50 psi D range tires unless I'm missing something.
I saw some BFG non DOT K02's prior to a Baja race at the shop I use. They were 315-75-16,load range E's with a whopping 3900# load capacity.
I was hoping BFG would release a 17" version with a high load capacity but nothing so far. Firestone/Bridgestone offers an E rated one.
