Ball joint lifespan

I brought my truck in for an alignment and the shop told me the left side ball joints are toast and the right side are worn but not could go for a while longer. They're changing all 4 now so that I don't have to be in again in a few months when its not holding alignment anymore. This is the first time I've ever had ball joints go bad (other than on my 60 ****** truck and who knows how long those had been in there). Is 50k miles all I can expect from ball joints?

For stock ball joints I would say yes. I had 84k on mine, but had really bad DW from like 65k on. Are you replacing with stock or aftermarket??

Replacements will be Moog. The shop says they're the best thing out there.

mine last 60,000 miles-my tie rods were worn out too. i went ahead and replaced the whole front end, along with installing free spinning hubs.

Hey do you have picks of those hubs? That sounds like something that is a good idea. How much did it help your fuel economy... At the very least you won't have to grease the front driveshaft as often!

They should have put a knuckled D60 on these trucks like back in the day... Look at how much those axles are worth on ebay , there is a reason for this.

Are all ya'll having ball joint problems driving 4X4s? Everyone with a sig seems to have 4X4. I've got 72K on my 4X2 with no problems at all.

It's 4x4's.... It seems to be a maintenance thing, they go out.

You guys are getting mileage that I would love to see out of ball joints!

The ball joints in my 2005 lasted 15,000 or 20,000 miles. I can't remember exactly... It's been a while ago but it only had 29,000 miles on it when I sold it.

Just a quick question...are those of you that are having ball joint problems also greasing your balljoints every 7500 miles? Just wondering if that's maybe part of the problem because I have 55k miles on my originals with no signs of any problems, and I lube them every 7500 miles.

Yes my front end shop said mine were shot but DC said they were OK. Called Moog and their tech said a little up and down movement is OK, so I left them. 54k miles and will wait till I have symptoms. I want Dynatracks but 2k is a lot for having to lock in the hubs. Seems people that plow snow have the most problems.
