I aready have the 7 micron filter installed but I was wondering if there was a aftermarket filter that could be installed inline somewhere to get it down to 3 to 5 micron without limiting flow.

Yep. Glacier Diesel Power has a 2-micron kit. I have one on my truck.

where did you mount it? Was it hard to install?

Cat 2 micron filter. About $70.00 total. Took about an hour to make the bracket and install.

I've got the same CAT setup as Jfaulkner but I moved it from the engine compartment to the toolbox in my bed. $70 sounds about right.

I may need to move mine also. Works fine with the current setup but with 2 cp3's I think it's going to get in the way.

That makes 2 votes now for the GDP 2 micron set up!!! Nice kit!!

Can you enlighten us on part numbers for the CAT filter and mount?
The MK-2 isn't bad for $125, but if the same thing can be built cheaper, I'll take a look.

The filter is 1R-0749, the mount is a Fleetguard (don't have the # sitting here). I know Cat has several 2 micron filters however some use a different mount and are different sizes and depending on where you get them they may or may not be available. The easiest way of doing it is to go to a truck dealer (Kenworth, Freightliner....) and get the filter and tell them you want the filter head that fits that filter. The filter head was like $12.00 and the filter is about $10 or so. The biggest expense was the fittings I got at the local Parker store. I replaced the banjo bolts with straight fittings on both the factory filter and the CP3, and used Parker Push-loc hose and fittings which are a little more expensive. If you wanted to save some $ you could just use rubber fuel line and hose clamps and keep the banjo bolts.

I have not added a extra filter but talking to the owner at Glacier Diesel on stock systems he said to use the BIG LINE KIT to help prevent any fuel starvation on stock push/pull pumps.Adds some extra fuel flow.Said standard kit was ok with a external Walbro pump.

You can also get the Perma cool filter head and filter. It's about 35bucks from Summit or Jegs. I used Perma's filter (2mic) and just recently changed it out to the CAT. The CAT I'm using is a big sucker. Like a foot long. I think it's a 1R-0745. Wouldn't fit in the engine compartment. I think it was $12. I had some hydraulic hose (2250psi) laying around, so I used that with hose clamps. The only thing is this filter is pre-stock filter, so it's kinda backwards. 2mic before the stock 10mic. It's all good...[coffee]

I’m running the 7-micron Fleetguard and the 2-micron Glacier setup. I hold 9 PSI of fuel pressure at the CP3 Idling with the stock in–tank lift pump. It drops a bit when you lay into it, but never less then 6-7 PSI so far.

Is it the BIG LINE kit or the standard?
