Attempted theft of one of our 06 work trucks..

Saturday night somebody broke into my colleague's 06 leased CTD quad cab. It happened outside of the apt. he's staying in overnight. They jammed something into the keyhole and got into the truck then jammed something into the steering column (probably a screwdriver or the like) and in the process damaged the coil(?) that's in there. They never got the truck . It happened just off the beltway in DC. My question is all the trucks are equipped with an alarm (I thought) but if they overpowered the lock with something like a screwdriver would the alarm go off? He said he never heard an alarm (horn honking) that night. He tried to start the truck Sunday morning and it runs for a few seconds then shuts off. The guy that came with the rollback laughed and said that the CTD Dodges are one of the most difficult vehicles to steal because of the integrated electronics. He should have it back tommorow

Sounds like they damaged something in the electronics for the security key, probably in the ignition switch. Would think that they replaced the ignition switch and probably a new key or two and back in business.

Hope all is OK.

I it was a SKIM key truck, the alarm would not go off it the circuit to the transponder was not broken. The guy that tried to steal my truck set off the horn alarm when he broke open the stearing column and cut the transponder antenna. I did not have any other alarm at the time.

In you case, the truck had a SKIM key and they were not able to start it. Otherwise a screwdriver will start these trucks.

I hear all it takes to break into a Super Duty is a flathead screwdriver.

06 Alarms

I thought they came standard too, evidently not. Mine had security system listed on window sticker but according to dealer they were talking about the Sentry Key which will not allow truck to start if key is not present. I had Viper System installed that covers glass, door locks & hood & feel alot better.

I disagree. I think they should be hung in public.
