Anyone seen the more round mirrors out now?

I have notice a truck or two around town with some bigger fat round looking mirrors that have the turn signal on them. I wonder if they are putting these on stock now? I don't care for them too much.

I think a marker/blinker light would be cool..but it needs to be on the other style tow mirrors

I'll keep the ones I have. Those look like really cheap aftermarket things.

Those are absolutely hideous looking... I know a marker light might be useful, but I just don't like the way it looks... I am happy with my tow mirrors....

I agree they look like a cheap, very cheap after market accessory...

Now at least those look decent, even better than ferds... but I still am not a fan of the lights on the mirrors... I guess just personal opinion... is it that useful to have them? When do they help the most?

Well, there's really no beans to spill! I was just feeling sorry for myself one day after looking at people's $1,000 led conversions/hid lighting, etc, knowing I couldn't begin to spend that kind of money for lights. I happened upon these from JCWhitney, and thought I'd give them a try.

For the mirrors, I ordered (2) 6" amber lights, and (2) 3".

The prices sure have gone up since I bought them though...now it looks like it would cost you $22 + shipping for the whole setup!

Anyway, I just drilled some small pilot holes to prevent cracking, and used the provided screws to mount them.

As for wiring, you can run the positive lead of the lights to the hot lead of the marker lights. For the negative lead of the mirror lights, wire it to the positive wire for the front turnsignals. This sounds odd, but it allows the mirror lights to come on with the marker lights and headlights, and then flash with the turn signals as well. The mirror signal will flash in the opposite sequence as the regular turn signals, but it's the only easy way to get 2 functions out of a single filament bulb.

The lights are rated for 40,000 hours, so no worries there. The current draw is in the milliamp range, so there's no fear of tying into factory TIPM circuits either.

If you find the 6" lights too bright at night while the mirrors are in the "non-tow" position, you can simply put in a tilt-switch, or mercury switch. There are cheaper places to get them, but for reference you can look at www.mcmaster.com and look up part number 7689K51. By using this type of switch, the top 6" light will not be illuminated when in the non-towing position; however, when you tilt the mirror out to tow, the light will automatically come on. This way, the light on the side of the mirror is always on, no matter if it's in the tow or non-tow position. Also, the light cannot be seen in the cab, so it's not distracting to the driver.

I also bought some of the longer strips of the same style, and used them for running boards, front air dam, and some "bed" lights around the inside of the toolboxes.

Oops...I don't have the mirror lights wired in this pic!

Well, now the secret is out...
