Any Regrets w/315's on OEM Rims?
#2
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
I have been using them for many years with no problems. The engine RPM's drop considerably at cruise. The only minor problem I had was that the tires would rub slightly on the control arms at full lock. I fixed this by adding a small spacer on the steering lock each side. This spacer is small enough that I have not noticed any difference in turning radius.

I've got 35's on stock alloys. Zero rub anywhere.
You're referring to the ST steel wheels or the chrome clad steelies?
I lost 1 mpg going from 285-75-17 to 35-12.50-17's.

I had them for a while, BFG M/Ts. They rubbed pretty good, I just learned to drive around it. Filled out the wheel well really nice.
I probably wouldn't do it again, but they were good to go while I had them.

Was out today in my truck and took note of the engine RPM's with my 315 tires. Just in case anybody is interested here is what I see;
60 mph = 1650 rpm
70 mph = 1900 rpm
80 mph = 2200 rpm.

no issues whatsoever
been running the 315's on my 4x4 DRW almost since day one, so about ten yrs now, on the stock steel rims that came on my truck when new. Haven't had any issues with rubbing when steering is at full lock, so I'm unsure how others are reporting this problem unless they have a 2WD?
As somebody else mentioned, your RPM's are significantly lower than with the stock sized tires. I haven't noticed any issues with moving big loads either, although I rarely tow anything over twelve thousand lbs.
The increased footprint and wider stance gives heaps of benefits as far as traction is concerned.
