Antilock Brake System Question

Hello All,
I had reason to mash my brakes all the way to the floor today. I was going slow In a long line of traffic and didn't notice they were stopped . I was going about 20mph. The brake peddle went steadily all the way to the floor as my heart came up in my throat. I got'er stopped inches from the bumper of the mini truck in front while the guy watched me in his rear view when he could have move up about the length of a vehicle . Anyway my question is after mashing the brakes like that, is that supposed to reset them in some way. B/C now they seem much more responsive and tight, whereas before they were getting pretty spongy, and slow to grab hold and stop. (43,000 miles on the stock pads)

thanks in advance,
Jamie
Yes, I'll pay more attention when I'm behind the wheel.

at low speeds the anti-lock system does is disabled. I don't know where that cutoff is, are you saying your brakes did pulse as antilock brakes do? My 04.5 pedal does the chicken when the antilock system kicks in. One interesting fact is that the brake pedal actually kicks me back to reset the plunger in the master cylinder (to allow fluid to enter the brake system after it has been expended by the antilock pressure release system while my foot is mashing on the pedal).

It kicks hard, did yours?

Eric

No it didn't. Also the pedal felt more like vibration and grinding rather than pistoning. Anyway my brakes seem to work better and feel tighter.

Thanks Jamie

They probably will simply due to the fact that by working them so hard you probably removed some of the glaze that was on the rotors/pads. The high metal content of modern pads will cause a bit of a cleaning effect if occasionally worked very hard.

Same thing happened to me today. Brakes feel much tighter after panic stop. Something sure did stink for awhile after the abs stop kinda like brake fluid or something burning.
