AC noise

Some times when i push the air cond button on the dash after the truck is running, it sound like a growl under the hood, loud enough to hear it in the cab, only lasts a second or 2, and doesnt do it everytime, the air comes out cold, and everything else seems to work, just makes a strange noise when first tuned on. thanks for and help.

Mine does the same thing. Here is another thread about it, seems like it's a common noise.

Same thing happens on my 04.5 CTD Ram. It is real loud and sounds like a "hard engagement". Notice it about 15 sec. after I start the truck if the AC is on or as soon as I turn the AC on if the truck is running. Seems to happen only when the truck is first started. After truck is warmed up turning the AC on for the first time makes no big noise. Had truck to the dealer and service writer said everything was normal. Not sure they reproduced the loud clunk.

Engines are so quiet, that we hear it. That is the only reason I can come up with. I did crawl under mine the other day to check and see if the bolts were tight. They were.

edited because of spelling.
