AC Engage

Sometimes my AC Compressor will engage so hard you hear a slamming noise. Other times its quite as can be. Any one else having this happen. I also have a problem with my switch in the cab. I will push the button and the light will go out and the fan noise will quit but I know the AC is still on because the Air coming out (not just for a min along time) is very cold on an 80 degree day.

Should I Take it in?

Mine also makes the slamming noise when kicking on. Like you said, intermittent problem that only happens sometimes. However, mine seems to do it even worse if I leave the AC on when I shut down the truck... then when I fire the truck back up, Bam! there it is... hope it's normal

That’s what mine does too. Shut down next day Bam like someone is hitting it with a hammer.

The bam is normal...everyone's is doing it. Search for past posts. My air does stay fairly cold for a while after I turn off the AC button too. I think the coil stays cold for a while...

I guess you did not read the part where I said the light in the cab is off Meaning AC button has been pushed and AC looks off.

The A/C unit in our rigs is pretty efficient, so you will definitely get some cool air for a while if you leave the blower on and turn off the A/C. Sometimes I have to shut everything off completely if the cool air is overwhelming.

As for the clunk, this is a normal condition as we have a pretty beefy compressor.

Lets all keep an eye on this compressor slamming thing. I really noticed it today, a very load obnoxious bam that makes the engine stutter. I guess i'm interested because I've already had the air go out 2 times in 10,000 miles.

What bothers me is it does not do it all the time. You would think that if it were normal it would slam every time you engage the AC.

Mine hit so hard yesterday that I thought I sucked a cat through the fan!! engine shuttered and everything, just like MD11's did...

It may be common, as evidenced by this post, but it sure doesn't seem "normal" to me. I guess time will tell. Can't afford to have the AC going out in the summer in AZ...

MD11, what caused your air to go out twice already? Was it compressor related?

I got the same "bam" today. Only does it sometimes.

Just one of the quirks of our trucks.
