2nd gen. VS 3rd gen.

I know this has been debated before and im having some 2nd gen withdraws. Can you guys give me the rundown and pros and cons of both trucks. I might be able to feel better after all of this because i switched to a 3rd gen. Lets get it on!!!!!!!

I have also updated from a 2nd gen(2001) to 3rd gen(2006) Some days I miss the old truck. When I want to be loud and obnoxious. But when I turn around and see the room I have with the mega cab, it's all but forgotten.

Uncompairable in performance. What you can do with a VP truck for $10k will never touch $5k in a CR.

ive talked to a few guys that went from a 2nd gen to a 3rd gen and they said they would never go back. my dad has owned alot of 2nd gens and they have been good trucks. I personally have owned 2 3rd gens and I like them alot. my 05 and 06 have been good trucks and I can say they havent really let me down. you can get alot of power out of either one it just seems easier to get the power from the 3rd gen. the main drawback I see with the 2nd gen 98.5-02 trucks is the Vp44 like most people say they do go out alot. I was thinking of trading mine for a nice 2nd gen for a while just to get lower payments if possible

I have the good fortune of having both. Some days I climb into my '01 and just love the purr of that 24v. Still on the original VP44, i might add (knock on wood). 340,000 miles.

Other days I climb into my '08 and just LOOOOOOOOOVE the fact that i have peace and silence, even at highway speeds. Oh, and when I pull the trailer it's a no brainer. The '08 is twice the truck the '01 ever was in the power department.

I still like the second gens better. I doubt I will ever sell my 2000. I do like my third gen, but mainly because of the volume controls on the steering. The third gen does handle better, but then again the it has 280,000 less miles.

I miss my lighter, more nimble 3/4T 97 and really miss the P pump but everything else from the front bumper to the rear bumpers of my 3rd gens is beefier and will take more power and make it with less work and time under the hood. Craig
