Size wise there is about an 1/2 in differance in width and hight,
tread pattern very close.

What tire would be best 06 2500 mega cab 5.9 i may put 2" lift later.

Thoughts on what matters most the load number or the D or E rating?

If Im not mistaken, Nittos are made in the USA.

Toyo makes some here,Japan and unfortunately China.

Just went to Discount Tire last weekend and got a set of tires. Originally thought I was going to get the Nitto Terra Grappler. The manager stated that it was a good tire. Then asked if I tow or carry heavy loads. He stated that the Nitto has a softer compound and that guys who carry a heavy load or pull trailers notice increased tire wear. Was also told by another tire dealer that Nitto is part of the Toyo group. I ended up getting BFG trail 285/70R17's.

I was also told that "some" Nitto's are made in the U.S. ??

I just had the Hankooks installed about a month ago. So far they have been great in the snow. I have had 2 sets of BFG AT's and I think the Hankooks are as good on slick roads. We'll see how they do when it gets a little deeper though. I have the 285/70/17's, from Discount, 782.00 otd.

I have the Nitto terra graps AT in 285/70-17 and like them. Much better than the BFG ATs and stockers I had (bfg=DW for some reason). Got the Nittos and DW went away.. Load range E and running higher psi may be the reason. I have a 2" lift f&r and they look a tad small but are good gearing/speedo wise. Next set will be TOYO MTs in the 295 for me. I went from BFGs to the Nittos 285/70/17 on my truck for the wieght they will carry. I pulled a toyhauler to Alaska . Rotated them in Faibanks and when I got back I needed new tires. I put on a set of Toyos and the truck wandered all over the road it drove me nuts. With the trailer on it was a white knuckle ride. I went back to the tire store and they swapped them out for another set of Nittos.
I like the feel of the Nittos but they don't wear good

What tread/size toyos were you using? I dont tow a 5vr (yet) but good to keep in mind.

They were 285/70/17 open country a/t. Lots of folks like them but they didn't work for me at all I had about 2k on them. My tire guy said they would last longer but .

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of getting the 295 Toyo MT just for winter. Next to zero towing in the winter for me tho..

Had my Hankooks on for a few thousand miles and they are doing great in the snow we have had and ride well and look good with the lift.

Got my 285 Hankooks from Discount Tire Direct for about that price, love them so far. They do great in the snow! I've been driving around in 2wd during these last few storms, forgetting to shift it into 4wd as they stick so well. Tried to do a donut (i.e. cookie) to get turned around in an icy parking lot and they grabbed so well I almost launched into a curb! Plus, I still haven't aired them down for the winter- they're still at 60 psi from when they were installed a month or so ago. I'm impressed.

(BTW, went with Hankooks because the Nittos have a bad rap for premature wear)

I am leaning toward the Hankook rf 10 in the 295 70 17 size since I think they may last longer.

Problem now is I was told they are out of stock and unavailable till at least mid January?

Just go with the 285s, better mpgs, lower cost, and still look good in my opinion.
