2006 5.9 diesel truck 4x4 automatic farts a white smoke cloud, then looses power,pull over stop engine start it again usually works for a while

What codes are showing up? Oh, wait, you would have said, huh. Turn the ignition key to the on position, then off, then on, off, on (fairly quickly, and don't start the truck). Stay in the on position the 3rd time and the codes should show up in the odometer. Write them down and come back. Also, how many miles or hours on the engine?
