1 ton on the beach???
1 ton on the beach???
well Im heading down to NC for new years and my B-in law said he said that he thinks that they opened the beach for trucks, has anyone ever taken a dually on the sand? just a little nervous 8K in the sand sounds like an expensive tow bill
I am reminded of the beach in Daytona where you can drive on it. People think it is really cool until the tide comes in. Every spring break there are 4-5 cars that are flooded cause people didn't know about tides.
Better leave the truck on the road unless you want a submarine.
Now there is an idea for Begle1!

First time I took my truck to the Outer Banks, I didn't know how much it helped to air down on the tires. Not sure if you should air down the rear tires of a dually or not for the sand - but I'd try it that way.
hey 35xj do u have a dually or single rear wheel . Ive been out with srw in the past i just worry about the extra drag from the duals , not to mention i have stock goodyears
i got stuck in the Outer Banks. it took a jeep a F250 and a surburban to get me out. I will never take my truck on sand again. with open diff or limited slip you might as well have 2WD, in my case i only had 1WD I did fine on the hard packed sand, but where it was any bit loose sand i sunk like Lead line. I know, 2WD and sand =

i have driven all over the beaches here in washington, but went to seaside oregon(on the sand road) and could not get off. with the new bigger meats, all is well.
just dont let the rear end start hopping if you are trying to move, that will break things and dig you in quick.

i drive my "drw" on the sand all the time during the summer months. not only do i drive it out on the sand but read my sig. when i drive out on the sand, everything in my is is hangin off the rear of my rig with the exception of the izuzu.
first thing you need is to be able to air the tires back to atleast a safe psi to get to the first place to air up. i have a bottle nitrogen that i use.
before you enter the sand air all tires down to 10psi that is low enough to allow you to play just no hard turns or you may roll the bead. i run 5psi but i am not out there to play in the truck. i tow my stuff out and park it. also after the air down put it in 4low and head out. don't be like most of the others who think they don't need 4x4 till they can't go any further in 2wd.
do it that way you will be fine. trust me

Actually the dually rear will float over the sand. The front is what you gotta worry about. 2 tires to support the heavy Cummins. They should put duallies in the front as well!
I took my truck out on Daytona. I was wondered being 2wd. Made it now prob but I stuck to the "path" as well. Although it got a little mushy going back onto the road. I did encourage it though.
Dually Front Tires are not the best on these sand plows!! Heck a good sand tire on a 2500 that is wide is still almost not enough! Stay on the beaten path and out of the deep loose stuff. Definatly air down ALL 6 of those rubbers!!!!!
drove the wifes new '03 on the beach in NC ...
had the stock 265's on ...
duallys will definitly be better in the rear but i aired down to 15psi and it was like night and day
just make sure you have a way to air up when you get back on road

on my 01 i have plowed thought sand about a foot to foot an a half deep on big shell. But i have 315 all-terrians and i never air down.Sand is just like mud momentum in the key. if you are cruising along and you see a soft patch up ahead speed up and pick the best line. I have cruised along big shell, about 60 miles of undevoloped beach, going about 60 miles per hour. Of course this was low tide. Oh and if it is low tide dont be afraid to run next to the water it will make the trip alot more enjoyable. Just make sure you can make it back up to the high road. And one more thing if you park make sure when the tide comes up it is at least 5 feet away from your truck
